Hi Does anybody run one of these in a mini? Available as 1400/1600 and also as a similar engine at 1700cc in pumas.
All aluminium, small, light and easily possible to get good reliable power. We have one in our (non-mini) raly car 1600cc and 200bhp.
Main problem I would think is that in a mini application the induction would be at the front.
has anybody done this conversion or have any information?

Use the search function and also try on 16v mini club. Many of the reasons why it hasn't or at least not often done are discussed. Some people have looked at fitting ford engines the main problems seems to be getting the gearbox to fit. The gearbox clashes with the tower. The solution would appear to be building a tower less frame from scratch rather than modifying a mini frame. Either that or you could look at fitting a different manufactures gearbox to the ford engine similar to what the suzuki boys are doing (vauxhall gearbox onto suzuki engine) .
Also from my experience fords live up to their names. FIX OR REPAIR DAILY. I had an escort with a 1.6 16v zetec engine in it and it only produced 88bhp. A 1.6 8v Vauxhall engine produces around 100 depending which model of engine you get. Ford engines always seem to me to be heavier on fuel and lower on power than other manufacturers engines of the same size.
I am by no means saying not to do it but for all the additional work it will take I would seriously reconsider chosing a ford engine.
Their are a coupe of front engined rear wheel drive minis that are using a cosworth lump however these have had serious body modifications.
