Hi there, I have just been attempting to remove my flywheel (engine out)
However, I have broken the head off of the centre bolt, the whole setup is very very tight. How am I going to remove the puller from the flywheel?!

Thanks

Matt

Slacken off the three bolts you've attached to the flywheel a quarter of a turn at a time until they move freely, then just remove it. The centre bolt shoulodn't actually engage with the thread on the crankshaft so isn't actually attached to anything.

Ive just realised that I havent removed the keyway washer! I had removed the locking washer only. Doh!

I have tried loosening the 3 bolts but they are pulled into the puller itself.

If I cut one of them is it likely to shatter?

Don't cut one- if they are under a lot of pressure it could fly apart and hurt you... Can you get mole grips on the centre bolt REALLY tight and slowly undo it?

How about heating up the centre bolt and knocking with a hammer so it slowly collapses, you shouldn't have to belt it hard if red hot and it should softly move, you can just bend it out of the way so the other 3 go slack.

Just some thoughts. You could weld a nut or suitable lump of metal to the bolt & try & use that to unscrew the centre bolt. Alternatively file or grind some flats on the bolt enough to get a spanner on. But as mentioned before the puller is under alot of pressure so just take it steady & prepare for the worst if it pops off.

If you heat the 3 bolts under stress they could twang apart and leave a red hot bit of metal sticking in you somewhere, not advised, I doubt you would heat the centre bolt hot enough with a blow torch to be honest anyway.

Success!!

I cut the centre bolt and struck with cold chisel and lump hammer, took some doing but its out.

Thanks for all of your help

Matt
