I fancied something small and fairly cheap, quick and easy. Won this off the bay for £16!

It'll be a case of stripping it down, spraying the frame, new wheel-set with a flip flop hub, replace the seat.. be okay for now. Get rid of the mud-guards, lights, rear brake etc.. any useless clutter.

Final result will look a little something like..

Very nice! great find and for £16 a bargain too! like your plans! I had a project on my bike on here last summer. I cant cope with the fixed gear so i run a single speed coaster brake rear hub and it works just fine and keeps the uber-simple look. I'll be watching this! :)

I like!

Mine is a steel frame (very very big!) - Reynolds 501 steel (does yours have a sticker on the bottom of the down tube saying anything similar?)

(501 is fairly light - 531 is lighter)

Does yours run 26inch wheels? Mine should but i fitted 700c track wheels from ebay (so they have flip flop hubs - and are alot cheaper than deep V ones like Ajperry's) but the original 26inch brakes don't fit in the usual way so i fitted some from my old racer (that i bought for a fiver!) on the back of the front forks! - so it looks like it doesn't have any. And it has bull horn handlebars :)

I seem to have lost a lock ring on the bottom bracket so the bottom bracket slowly undoes but i have a spare to fit!

I had those exact same battery lamps on my Raleigh Arena back in the late 70's. I bought the bike new in June 1977 when I was 12!

There are no brakes :) the gear at the back is fixed, so you are constantly pedalling. If you want to slow down you slow your pace, or you stop pedalling all together and lock the rear wheel up causing a controlled skid.

However I will be fitting a flip flop hub at the back, so I can choose between being fixed or free wheel. I'll keep the front brake as well.

So if I'm running fixed I will lock my legs up to stop, or if I'm running free wheel I can coast and use the front brake to stop.

Haven't been home to have a play with it yet ^_^ I will be back from Uni at the end of this week though :mrcool:

& yeah I will be going with 700c wheels.

Ordered these tyres already,

Need to earn some more pennies before buying a wheel set.

Back for Easter so made some progress on it today :)

Had a right job of getting the bottom crank out without the right tool, but did it in the end (cheers Dad!)

Headed out to a Classic motorbike show today, might get the afternoon/evening in on the '79. If not, it'll be tomorrow!

Looks like a great project! I loved my fixie project that I did last year - it didn't take that long but the end result is satisfying - it's now my daily commute
Having said that it's a bit big, so I'm considering getting rid of it; that'll also give me another project to do, so it's a win both ways!

Have you decided on a colour yet?

A bloke without a project is like a women without a shopping list!

Nah not decided yet.. either back to it's original blue but without the decals, or a cream of some sort.

Got my wheels put together and realised that because I've got deep V rims, the valves aren't long enough :P so I'll have to order some new tubes.
