8.4" discs for me, ap600 brake fluid, cross drilled and grooved discs, and yellow stuff brake pads up front, minifin drums and mintex shoes up back on my everyday mini. Stops me fine. With no servo.
I had a servo on my old mini, and the new (black) one hasnt got a servo, and i actually prefer it without a servo, pedal feels better.

Just been to my first Mini Club meet (Colchester), and someone was saying that the Metro 4 pot calipers are likely to be better than my AP calipers because they are only 2 pot (and therefore don't pressure the brake pad as well)-anyone agree?

Well you could find a set of BRM V16 calipers, they are 8 pot.

I found the ONE POT Fiesta calipers absolutely excellent - and very reliable and trouble free. Nice big Fiesta pads too!

The standard 8.4" discs with standard callipers are excellent if the discs are top quality and the pads are correct for the type of motor sport you are doing. As I think I said, I used Mintex M1177 in the last Mini with 8.4" brakes that I rallied and they were absolutely superb. Call Questmead in Rochdale, speak to Alan and he'll help with the current pads needed.
The Mini is a light car and standard brakes with AP600 fluid and the right pad material are ideal.
It's mainly sales-pitch which makes some think they need 4-pots with vents. Maybe for long-distance racing with mega-sticky slick racing tyres they may be necessary, but not for a rally car on mixed surfaces.
