After changing steering rack gaitors and tie-rod end, needed to jack my car up to put on floor. Really P****d off at how previous people have jacked the car up, I started jacking car up, the floor pan went up but not the car, F**K. So does this mean i need to get new floor pans and jacking points welded, or can i bash the floor pan out and weld a new bracket on?

What are you using to jack it up with? Trolley jack on the sub frames is best I think most will agree................. :D

Yeah but i only have 2 axle stands so could only do one side at a time, even used a small chuck of wood to help spread the weight :D

Yes you can bash the floor flat. So long as its in reasonable condition it wont break!! And as above...get a trolly jack and jack the car up with a small block of wood between the jack and the front/rear subframes...always use axle stands to support the car if you intend to get under it....And prob best practice to use them even if you are not geting under it.

You can jack on the sub frames and place the stands on the sub frames as well at the same time if your smart with the placement of the jack...............

The square bracket in the corner of the floor pan isnt a jacking point if thats what you jacked up on it was used for the manufacture of the shell

The jacking point is that square hole in the sill (as long as its not covered by over sills)
The best place though as mentioned is the subframes. Find the widest and flatest part and jack it from there. The floor isn't and never was designed to bare the weight of a complete shell, just your feet and carpet

The four small plates (one each end of the front and rear panels) are slinging points that were used by the manufacturer to move the car around during the build process.

Its a common misconception that they are jacking points hence the reason why you see so many mini's with bent floor pans.

The safest place to jack a mini is on the subframes but pick your spot carefully as you can still damage the subframe especially the rear subframe if you try to jack the car up by using the rear of the subframe (the cross piece just in front of the rear valance.)

The corner by the radius arms is a safe option for the rear and for the front somewhere close to the centre on each side where it is flat.

Don't jack the car on the gearbox housing as you may have damaged or aged engine mounts and could end up doing some serious damage.

If you are happy that the jacking point in the outer sill is in good condition then use this but if its showing signs of rust around the point be very careful. It may collapse.

do we have proof that the four brackets on the corners were used to move them around during assembly?, i have looked at old films/vidios etc and none of them show them as being used.
does any one have a link/picture etc of them showing them being used?

Indeed it isnt

Maybe you have 2 axle stands and ahve to jack it up twice.. Not alot of effort really

The floor of a mini is not be jacked up under.
Ever

Subframe all the way just look and use your brain
Dont do it on the sump either unless you cant avoid it for some jobs
