Model: Mayfair
Year: 1989
Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible):

Right, the car has just got back from a carburetor service and a tune up from a specialist, which includes the type of service kit you will find on Minispares, as well as a new carburetor needle and spring. But even after all this the problem still exist which is when you accelerate in say 3rd or 4th gear up a hill, the car starts to judder and seems to lose power (as if it feels like its back firing), as if when the engine is getting a heavy load of work to do the car seems to judder, same goes for going around 65ish MPH, the car if you let go of the accelerator and then accelerate, the car pulls back so to speak and then accelerates.

The car also judders at a certain amount of revs (which i think is about 2500-3000 RPM) when your keeping at a certain speed, as if its struggling to keep up.
Anyone got any ideas what it could be? Does it need a engine tune? A new fuel pump or something?

Any non-standard parts that might be involved with the problem?

have you tryed going down gear in 2nd or 1st as you have to drop down a gear when you go up hills depends on what the hill is like!

have the points and the rest of the ignition system been checked too? mine was doing that when the points were not set properly (but way too close and started sticking together).

Yeah that seems to solve the problem, its not like the car is stupidly low on revs up the hills (like about 1500-2000RPM), but changing down does help.

Thats a good point, I had to replace the points due to the last ones breaking, so I'll check over the points soon.

A little bump. :techsupport:

I've changed the spacing in the points as well as the spark plugs and the car seems to be running a lot better as well as not pulling back when accelerating.

I still need to try the car out on a motorway/duel carriage way to see if it still judders at high speed. If it still does then maybe I will try putting a new coil on. But hopefully I won't need to. :)
