Apparently in Germany this idea is common and used all the time! (I work with a lot of german colleagues!)

lets see.......
rent £12000, rates £4200, electric £1600, gas £1100, water rates £490.....so thats £19390.
we work for about 50 weeks in the year, 6 days a week, 8 hours a day...... so thats 2400 hours, but were busy maybe half of the time..... lest say 1200 hours available
so.....if anyone wants to rent a 2 post ramp in the coventry area its £16.00 per hour

tell you what though....a smaller unit, with maybe 4 x 2 poster ramps in, this could make some proper money....assuming the chavs dont nick everything

you forgot about insurance and when you tell them you want to let 'the public' lose on a ramp unsupervised you can quite easily add 50% to your premium.

but if you get deposits etc for hireing specalist tools, rental and cleaning charges, for tools you supply or the customer uses thierv own tools, it would boost profits and make it more of a bussiness venture.I've got a 2 post ramp in my workshop ..... I'll rent it out on an hourly basis

I think its used a lot in America ( ah Christine rebuilds? )
Think if you had the room you could have bays for long term storage/ on the floor repairs.
Then let the ramps out for up in the air repairs at a higher rate.
Hire out tools, expertise etc.
If it happened in my area I would try to support it.

Sorry to go off topic, can i ask where you're studying motorsport engineering?

I have Oxford Brookes as my top choice mate, picked it over Brunel. I'll be starting a foundation year in September hopefully!
I saw your project thread, and saw you are at Brookes too. I'd love to have a chat sometime, about the course, what year you are in, where you're staying etc.
I'm also only from Crowthorne, so maybe we could meet up sometime... is your mini running? mine isn't, otherwise we could go for a spin!
PM me your number, or your facebook link or somethingCheers!
Hope this also answers your question Cooperman... thanks for taking interest! Maybe you could tell me about your son and his route into the industry sometime?
Also, thanks for the replies people. I hope this inspires some of you to do something with your thoughts, I seem to have made a few people think about something simillar. Thanks also for the feedback. For me personally i'd like to use a club share of a place with the gear, instead of this... but I just wondered how feasible it would be as a business idea.
Thanks everyone! Keep the chatter going, it's interesting!
Matt
I used to know one of the lecturers there. Sadly he died at the end of last year. Only 28. Poor sod
