No it’s not the finished product... I have redone the trunnion a second time on a higher voltage setting on the rectifier and it came out great.

I will post some pics of it shortly as I left it outside in the rain to test the corrosion resistance of the plating.

I also found that the platting can be mirror polished.

Cheers.

I am looking forward to the piccies, you definately got me thinking of buying a Kit myself, I googled this website,

http://www.gaterosplating.co.uk/

could you advise me on the size of kit? I suppose the bigger the better, but if I can put a whole wheel in it that would be just,...well good enough.

Thanks
Michel

Hallo Jeroen,

I am not sure where you are based but there are companies in Europe too, this is the one I googled up in the UK

thank you for that, very interesting company, I think by looking at their website they are doing business in S-Africa only, and it would be a bit to expensive to export a DIY kit to the UK, I have found a few sites here and for a small set up like yours (10ltr) cost about £170.
I most definately get one when my project's body resto-work is all done (October). How are you getting on with your welding?

Scared actually.... I haven't even begun too weld with the mig yet and I know I need to test weld before I even begin to weld on the mini itself. But I am fully geared to start test welding over the weekend. So I will be posting pics of all the melted steel on Sunday.

Well it is not easy to explain, but if you are extremely scared of electric shocks,.... mig welding is just that but without getting shocked if you know what I mean, best way of learning have test pieces first as you are doing, or going to, and get used to the settings on your welder to the thickness off steel there will be plenty of websites what can show you how, I can send you one if you like, which is good for starting the first welds even and then you will be on your own,....
Once you get the hang of it, you'll love it!!

Possibly a rude question, but how much do you pay shipping and how long does it take to receive things from Mini Sport?

& nice project :techsupport:

Not at all... On a £400 order I pay about £90 shipping, then 25% import tax and then 14% vat....Bugger :)

Luckily I have been keeping myself busy with the plating kit...
