I still use my old 1/2 inch drive Kamasa set from 20 years ago. Still going strong. Ive recently invested in a full Teng tools kit, and its superb,. But it was a bit expensive.

All my stuff is Britool, collected over the last 20 years.

The main difference between cheap tools and quality items are the fact that the sockets fit the nuts correctly meaning there is much less chance of rounding off nuts and bolts. On top of this the strength and confidence the ratchet handles and breaker bars give you compared to cheap makes is vastly different.

You do get what you pay for, but cheap stuff will need replacing more often.

Blue Point is a spin off of Snap on and usually on the same van that the travelling Snap On salesman drives.
Quality is good and a lot cheaper thanh Snap On.
If you can get Britool though I agree with previous comments its unbreakable

working in a garage day to day when i first start i had clarke, halfors, silverline but after a few days it started to fall apart, been an aprentice i dont get paid the most but i always make the effort on pay day to go on the snap on van and buy things that are on special offer and 18months on ive now got a very good tool box, mabey 3/4 full of snap on tools.
for home i would go for halfords pro range, teng or blue point (budget snap on still with life time garaunte)

hope this helps rob

Most of my stuff is Halfords professional, Britool, a couple of Facom bits, random Jaguar branded (no idea what they are but good) and some dirt cheap stuff. 13mm dirt cheap ring spanner went bang in a big way at the weekend! I'll be digging out the rest of that set and dumping it in the scrap bin at work!

I've only got a small tool box atm for home, but when I start my apprenticeship in a few months will hopefully start buying some better tools as the ones I have atm are shocking.I'll probably get a halfords trade card not long after I start, so that along with the snap-on van etc, should have quite a few good quality tools.

My dad has a full teng tools cabinate he got a couple of years ago and it's very nice to use. I also have a small 38 piece 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 drive set which he got me which again is very nice to use.

I still use an Elora 1/2" sq. drive set I bought new in 1968. It's had replacement sockets for the most popular sizes - 7/16", 1/2" and 9/16" - all Elora and I just bought a 16 mm replacement from Halfords.
I also have an American 'Craftsman' 3/8" sq. drive set and a Halfords 3/8", plus a 'Craftsman' 1/4" deep socket set. The 'Craftsman' stuff really is superb.
My big torque wrench is Britool and my small one is Draper.

since christmas ive been using a halfords advanced set and its very good, no problems at all, the previous cheap set that seemed good value for money from halfords broke 1st time i used it and before that my dads ancient draper set thats still going strong, i just kept getting annoyed when sockets i needed had been lost over the years :)
