I'm new to the forums but I do own a Nissan Pulsar GTi-R as my second car and have been to a fair few Rolling Road sessions with it. Im my opinion once you've had modifications done to the engine regardless of what it is then getting it on a Rolling Road is a must. Not only will you find out the power and torque but the tuner (if they're worth their salt) will be able to make sure the AFR's (air fuel ratio) is fine, eg not too rich or lean and can usually get much better MPG out of the car once it's been set up properly. My next plan for my mini is a stage three kit and I will definatly be making sure I get it tuned properly on a rolling road once this has been fitted. I think it's as valueable as wheel balancing and allignment once you've changed the suspension/wheels.

What about Ricky Gould up in huntly. Mini friendly and really knows his stuff. Nicer drive up to huntly as well.

The big key is making sure the rollingroad people can shape SU needles or are able to know which needle will give improvements.
Otherwise all they can do is alter timing and mixture which can be done at home.

My rolling road session was worth every penny, i had the right needle in but my timing was well out and my mixture was out a little, probably seeing a 35mpg return on my 1275stage one with hif44 which managed 64bhp atw @5600rpm. i mustve been getting 20mpg before, it was utter turd.

Took Rick's car to Mini Sport last week, 998 Cooper, single 1 1/2" HS4, 72.5 bhp (previously it had 77 on twin 1 1/4 HS2s).

Rob filed the needle to give a compromise between power, torque and fuel consumption- this last one is more than important than ever. Even if you don't get much power improvement from RR session, getting an extra 8mpg saves loads of money these days. This sort of thing only comes with experience and is worth travelling for.
Rick had previously had the car on some rollers in Congleton, where the bloke was obviously clueless with old cars, he got bugger-all performance out of our old engine.

I had a 1275 GT in the late 70s and could not get five quid's worth of petrol in- and it had the larger tank!

Try telling that to kids today.....

Sorry bud Green and Whites don't do the rolling roads anymore, the guy they originally used got shot of it so they had to use someone else who they described to me as useless and also using describing words that contain characters like *^!± if you catch my drift. I had a static tune from them though and I was mightily impressed with the result, I posted my feelings about it and many people echoed the same.

Cheers

I would defo say get to RR. Wen I had the 1275 it was mg metro engine, so should of had around 68bhp on a good day. The engine was in good condition, slightly worked head, air filter and exhaust. By the time it was finished on the RR we added nearly 10bhp to that (it was running badly before that, hence that lack of power!)

danny were did you get your mini rr and how much does it roughly cost for a rr sesion? ta

Personally, i think they arnt needed.

I have a stage one kit, which i have set the fueling and timing on my self, never taken it to a rolling road, people who have driven with me will back me up when i say its pretty damn quick for a 998.

I can easily keep up with my mate who has a 998, with a 1275 head, which has been built and RR'd by slark... (not nocking slark by the way, just an example)

My fuel economy seems to be pretty good aswell, but never really bothered to check.
