hey all,

i'm looking to fit a set of 1.5:1 minispeed rockers to my 1275 with Kent 266 Cam. Reading up i've seen people discuss the rockers hitting the rocker cover. Being non mechanical but trying to learn, whats the best way to measure if there will be any issues with space ? surely i can't simply put my old rocker cover on and hope for the best :)

cheers!
Mike

Some people say the rocker cover off the MG metro will cover them without issues, But when i fitted mine they were hitting the rear of the cover. Minispares sell a nice blue cover which will cover any ratio of rocker. Its not cheep though, I think mine was £45 ish. Also some people say that the 1.5 rockers dotn really give much of an increase in power for the cost. Well I can say it made a difference to my 1380. Maybe not a big power increase but it idles smoother now and the delivery is great from lower down the revs. Nice. But also bare in mind that they really only work best if the head has been worked on and a decent cam is in there. Not great on 998 engines either.

Yeah if your running high lift rockers you might need to get the above mentioned mini spares rocker cover.
Not sure if you can measure though.
and as above it will only work properly with head and cam work. 998's like 1.3 rockers max. as the standard was acclaied 1.25.1 but most sets only made 1.22.1 due to build quality.

Opposite?? Do you mean they should create more power but make the idle rougher and the low down torque worse? I didnt get mine rolling roaded yet so maybe something is wrong with mine!! It defo feels better though.

My cam is similar to a 266 and I run 1.5's in a Metty rocker cover. just try putting the cover on without the gasket and manually turn the engine a couple of revs.

Hi lift rockers give you more of everything so it's lift on overlap & LCA you're looking at. Too much can lead to lost power at low rpm as it gives more opportunity for the charge to escape.

cam info There are also a few excel sheets of cam info on the web

Thanks for that Ethel. Puts my mind at rest..My cam is the RE 13 OT (very similar to a kent 286) and I was told when I bought it that it works best with the 1.5 ratio rockers due to the scavenging affect of having the exhaust valve open slightly longer on overlap. Apparently it helps to get more fuel air mix in. They didnt fit under my Metro rocker cover though.

My Titan 1.5 roller rockers would not fit under the MG metro cover, even after I attacked it with a die grinder, so I bought a black coloured Mini Spares rocker cover. For all the hassle it saved it was £40 well spent IMO.

its a 1275 with an MG Metro head and will probably have a Graham Russel cam in eventually and he seems to recommend having the 1.5's in with his cam

hey andy,

how do you find the RE13OT ? i'm thinking of getting one of them (or similar from Graham Russel in Aus) to fit into my 1275. Its a daily driver so needs to be able to handle stop start traffic. I see Keith Calver suggests 1.5 rockers with it which was one of the reasons i bought them..

I got mine from Keith Calver.. Came as a kit with the followers and correct strength valve springs. £140 all in. Fab deal and the cam timing intructions are on his web page. He also bothered to write a small note on the correct height to fit the valve springs in order to get the max out of the whole set up. He gets bad press off some people, but he seems like a top bloke to me.
