R/h wing is finally welded up and dressed including the stiffener between the wing and A panel. Once the car is back on the spit then some final dressing and tweaking will be done.

Hi Neil

I'm considering fitting those little strengthening pieces are they to stop flexing they weren't on my car when I got it but it had had a new front in the past
I take it you made these yourself ? Plug welded from the back and bottom ?

Cheers
Mark

Do you always just use the MIG? I wished I'd had access to a spot welder when I was doing the bodywork on the Mini, would've saved a lot of hours work. Also I see that you welded the small strengthening panel under the scuttle to the wing, when I did this area I feared welding here as I felt it would've burnt off any paint I'd applied on the inside and possibly had a rust issue, so I bonded this area together. I now wished I'd welded it and filled the corner of the scuttle with cavity wax. On the passenger side the paint on the seam with the wing and scuttle has a small crack from movement. The other side is fine however. I'll sort it when I respray her in a few years!

Yup always use my MIG. I do own a spot welder but have not got to grips with it yet. And yup I will have burnt off the paint inside the scuttle I applied before fitting it. However once the car is back on the spit I will force paint into the cavity followed by Dinitrol after the car has been painted.

Well apart from some minor tweaking to be done later the front is now complete.

I did have a disaster with my compressor as the motor died, the new one did not come with any wiring instructions (Google to the rescue) the new pressure switch needed some blanks making before it finally fired up briefly. Then it tripped the RCD so had to find a C type rated one before it finally worked correctly.

Now i have more pressure which is great, however i think the pump could be shaking itself to death so maybe a new one needed soon.

Anyway, the Wing to A panel strengthener fitted

IMG_6881_zpsqn0ghrus.jpg

IMG_6882_zpsop31uq28.jpg

IMG_6883_zpscc4gx477.jpg

Then it was onto the wing to front panel weld cleanup

IMG_6887_zpsbu7zazha.jpg

Then the wing to A panel flange gaps on both sides

IMG_6884_zpsvabfciwg.jpg

IMG_6885_zpsinuduf02.jpg

IMG_6886_zpspnstlyu0.jpg

Car was then spun round, the rollover kit removed then it was onto the boot catch bracket

IMG_6888_zps1cmmv8a4.jpg

IMG_6889_zpsrhvufdrh.jpg

IMG_6890_zpsfml3lsd2.jpg

Happy days so all thats left inside the boot is the tank support bracket, but i am thinking about adding the spare wheel clamp as well.

Right onto the boot skin.

Its not a happy camper as its full of filler so it had to go oh and the 15 self tapping screws as well

IMG_6898_zpselis6fdc.jpg

IMG_6902_zps2ishu4px.jpg

IMG_6903_zpsykna3izi.jpg

So off came the skin to find a right mess underneath

IMG_6904_zpsvoaumqpj.jpg

IMG_6905_zpsr0ilmsqc.jpg

IMG_6906_zpsx7wuw3ho.jpg

IMG_6910_zpswtnfu62e.jpg

IMG_6911_zpspd1haoni.jpg

IMG_6913_zpscukvia3d.jpg

and fifteen self tapping screws

IMG_6912_zpsau2ble8q.jpg

So new lower section made and welded in place

IMG_6914_zpshh9bmyiu.jpg

IMG_6915_zps30q0kt9b.jpg

IMG_6916_zpscyngrso1.jpg

Tomorrow the small sections on the side will be replaced and all of the unwanted holes welded up

They held the seal in place instead of using the correct clips and a happy new year to you to Mark.

Last two bits of rust cutout and replaced

IMG_6918_zpsgbcmd2fa.jpg

IMG_6917_zps4hkdpe4d.jpg

IMG_6919_zps7xsaeqal.jpg

IMG_6920_zpst5idw7ar.jpg

IMG_6921_zpswa85tf7u.jpg

Happy with that so then it was on to filling all of the holes, the best part of thirty of them.

IMG_6923_zpszk2lgtxw.jpg

IMG_6924_zpszbaxt1sn.jpg

IMG_6922_zpskhzyyiub.jpg

IMG_6925_zpss1lowwcu.jpg

IMG_6926_zpshdlfgr5a.jpg

Laborious work but worth it. So onto paint removal and found that this boot lid is not original so the accident had written the old one off.

IMG_6927_zpsq6ixvg1m.jpg

Once the paint was rubbed back it was on with the Deox gel to kill off any remaining rust

IMG_6928_zpszqppzfgw.jpg

IMG_6929_zps65qgttnh.jpg

While that was doing its job i prepped the inside of the skin, so removed the majority of the Heritage coating and liberally applied Epoxy Primer

IMG_6930_zpsfsizifxn.jpg

IMG_6931_zpsta0uew1u.jpg

Right, that came out ok so on with the Epoxy Primer and topcoat inside the carcass

IMG_6932_zpshiliocsw.jpg

IMG_6933_zpsnx3gew6h.jpg

IMG_6934_zps2ftx7gtn.jpg

IMG_6935_zpstxdof4x0.jpg

All ready next week for the skin.
