Finally got the l/h rear quarter on and happy with it
Now at this point in time it was time to turn Paddy around so did that and splashed some Epoxy primer on to the welded seams.
Next on the list was remove the A panel to see what the flitch return was like after a couple of years and i realised it had to go. Having a close look at the hinge mounting points showed a bit of pitting so it had to go
And then it was fab a replacement section so started with this
And ended up with this
That will get fitted next week, in the meanwhile it was time to investigate the scuttle. First viewing it looked ok but there was something lurking
Cleaned the paint off and it started to show a bit more
The flange was cruddy but there was more to come
So for all of you peeps who only see whats on the surface well here's what reality is like
Now to top it off the closeout was just as bad
It was all going anyway but it just goes to show you what can be hiding. Please bare in mind though this is original metal 41 years old.
So while i was at it i stripped all of the underseal off the inner wing
Not too bad and again for a 41 year old car very good but i'm in two minds whether to replace the front of the inner wing. There is quite a bit of pitting and even after using Bilt Hambers finest its 50 50. However the good news is the shock mount is virtually pristine
so after some stripping and surface rust removal i ended up with this
And with the flitch return off i decided to crack on with the door step so thats in the process of being tweaked and fettled ready to fit
