How well do the hub caps fit the Minisport replica wheels? I've read a few things varying from them being a tight fit through to them needing to be made to fit!

These fit well and sit nicely.

Haven't said hello for some time - hello Neil. Your wee car is having some attention lavished on it with all that new running gear. Looks great - but what you do always is.

Cheers Hugh, doing the disc conversion has made me think about Paddy and what i need to do to him. My missus has been querying how much money i have spent on him but i want him to be in the rudest of health for the L2B run plus i want to take him to all of the local shows i can get to this year.

Then if all goes well and i get the rest of his panels its full resto time. There never seems to be enough time to work on him plus keep the boss happy and work on my mates mini.

So it was the last piece in the brake system to be replaced and so a nice shiny new Cooper S master cylinder went in. But before that i thought i spied rust lurking in the area behind it but no it was black sealant and a lot of it. There was some very minor surface rust but for a car thats 38 this year i am very pleased.
So it was treated, etch primed and a good coat of primer before the Master cylinder went in. It will get top coated tomorrow in case we spill any brake fluid.

Good day at the workshop on Paddy.

First off was to sort out the steering column as there was no way it was going to pass an MOT shaking around like it did.

So obviously you need to disconnect certain leads etc and so you find this mess
Choc lock central

Something to sort out when he gets restored, so after grinding off the mounting bolt the column came out nice and easy so quickly stripped it down to find this little lot
Posted Image
The nylon / plastic sleeve was in bits so not good and the felt although in good condition had ridden up the sleeve and did nothing at all. So one new felt and sleeve later the column was ready to fit

Fifteen minutes later all fitted and everything works properly with no play. Then it was on to the big bleed. That went well until my mate pointed out the front r/h flexi pipe was twisted too much and would have failed the MOT. Damn rookie error, finally after an hour or so it was straightened out and the system re bled.

Checked the lights and everything worked apart from the rear l/h light. Nothing at all, bulb was good but on closer inspection the bullet connection was in bits along with the others so not too sports. Taken apart cleaned up and re crimped where needed ended up with everything working. Result so the only thing left to do for the MOT is replace the wipers and arms and grease up all of the suspension components.

Its close, very close. :D :D

Cheers Hugh. No rust, all new suspension, brand new brakes, good lights, a horn that works and new wipers and arms. Oh and a engine that sounds good and does not belch smoke. What could it possibly fail on O_O O_O O_O O_O

Good Luck Neil!!

Cheers Dan, going to try and talk the wife to let me insure him next week so he can go for his MOT. Got a big holiday coming up next month so she will no doubt say no but worth trying.
