Hi,

I am looking at starting racing a classic mini in the CSCC events, and or some hill climb/ sprints depending on the car set up.

Whats people view on this car below?

Really worried the FD is too short for track work?

Morning. Yes it would be the first mini I have raced. I have a back ground on cars mainly RWD, TVR, M3, VX220, Fords so am comfortable with that driving style. Will be interesting to see how the mini does handle though, and deffo has some lift off oversteer from everything I read. Keep the toe in right?

Its quite a good car, decent spec and reasonably well priced. Good for a novice.

Does not specify disc or caliper size and I am would prefer to see in on 10in wheels - 6in Revos with Avon ZZ tyres. Gearbox casing number not specified, would prefer DAM5626, would also like 4.1 final drive to make it fly. The gearbox will need a pull down after about 8 events as syncros/baulk rings wont last in competition. Engine spec is ok for to start with, you can upgrade the carbs to a Weber 45 on long inlet later.

Couple of inconsistencies in the description, eg 4 branch exhaust manifold?

Just make sure that the car's spec is acceptable to the group you are planning to race with. Then you need the ARDS test , all the kit and budget £500/1000 for a trailer. Good luck.

I have my ards and gear.

The calipers are 4 pot wilwood app.

How would the smaller wheels affect the gearing?

Not sure on the 4 branch I will look when I go to view on Friday.

It should be 3 branch.

With 10s you will have a lower top speed but faster acceleration. However, those Willwoods may well be too big to fit a 10in wheel - just ask the seller.

Like the DOT 1.5 brake fluid. I am informed that the Dot 5 stuff is unsuitable for a mini being the wrong viscosity.

For competition use, there is no catch tank, the diff will be definately too high(4.1 or lower) and it's hard to see, but the gear change through the floor does not look sealed. Has loads of the right bits, but I suspect a wanabe toy. I am sure that after your previous vehicles, the first drive with the lsd will be "entertaining".

Claims to have a cross pin diff & a LSD? Similar confusion over the clutch, ask to see some receipts 'n nail down exactly what you'd be buying.

Having spoke to Jonspeed where the car has been for the work. It doesn't have the LSD anymore just an xpin diff. Worried a little about noise limits too on it now, how do they fair in general?

Noise limits will be the least of your problems!

They generally test at 105db with a probe and ask that you run the car up to 4500rpm. I never had a problem with mine, 1430cc, single back box and 135bhp.

Right so noise is off the worry list. Is it going to need gearboxes every year really? Sounds a nightmare if so. Yes also need to question the Shell body, he seems to not know the car very well. I think its been brought by a not too clued up person. He has paid Jonspeed lots though it seems for the A+ rebuild and gearbox change.

this car was featured in mini mag last year , at the ring.
it was then for sale near me for a price of £5500 with 4 spot light bonnet pod, the car looks to be the same apart from the wheels have changed colour, seats have changed, and i cant make it out but it used to have carbon fibre archers.

it aint a mk2 cooper s, its what it is. originally an spi cooper iirc, looked at buying this myself when it was originally forsale. i spent hours looking around this,
