Hi all, my freind had a donor engine that he no longer needed. It was from a clubman and is believed to be a 1098! Anyways, long story short it is missing a few parts, but i got it for free so im not complaining :). Im looking to build a fast road spec engine which i can sell on to get money for lots of nice shiny bits for my mini.

So first i started by clearing the 30 years of crap off the bloody thing! Only have a picture after cleaning i'm afaid! So after alot of gunk and some washing there was actually an engine underneath! :o. So got the block into the garage. Took off all the alternator e.c.t and drained it. My god the filth that came out of it was disgusting!.
After a bath of wd40 the pistons still turned smoothly and easily ;).
Plan tomorrow is to remove timing gear, hopefully have the block off and pistons/camshaft out.
I havnt done this before so please let me know if you spot any mistakes! And of course im sure i will be needing some help along the way. More pictures to follow tomorrow!!!!!

Thanks! Didn't get a chance to do any work today as uniwork was looking at me all sorry eyed, will be up early in the morning, more pics to follow!

Also, I've been fighting to get the bellhousing and clutch off, think its been sealed with hermatite, literally beaten the thing to death and isnt shifting!!!!
Do you know what size socket i need to remove the big bolt holding the flywheel in behind the clutch??

Dont know about socket size.
Be interested to watch this space >_<
Love small bore tuning.
Glad youve thought again about the turbo idea haha.

Really they are a good motor with abit more go than the 998. Just dont hold it on the pin all the time.

Cheers

Yeah was a bit ambitious :). Thinking of the final spec, might have a set of bargain hs2's to use. Also any ideas on the whereabouts of cheap parts? Dont have to be new as its a learning process. I need a new head, clutch plate, igniton system exhaust valves e.c.t

the more things i realise i need the more ££ i will be spending!

Is there a way of definately checking what engine capacity it is, deffo out of a clubman, unsure if its a 998 or 1098

Hs2's are amazing :) Do it :)
Mini Spares are pretty good to be fair

Head wise. SPEND MONEY. seriously if you want a good a series car that goes well then spend money on a good head.
Ignition wise. Either get a dizzy cheap and put an Aldon Ignitor in there or get a full leccy one.

Yeah ive got a spec for my 998 all planned out and the total £££ is abit ambitioius :P

Yeahh, i wont be using it in my mini though as its a 1275 with just over 30k on the clock and is running sweeeeet as a nut :). right ran down the garage through the dens fog and unearthed some numbers, here it goes:

Numbers on block: 12A497
J5073
N23G4

Number on gearbox housing: 22G1832

I've found MOWOG written all over this baby, on timing chain cover, on Gearbox housing. Help pleaseeeeeeeeeee! :)

Yeah i had a look through that, no luck though :\. If not i'll just have to wait till its apart and can measure :). Well my freind restored a mini 3years ago and sold it, now has the bug back.... I know he is looking for a mini, so might have some kinda plan to make a stripped out retro racer! :)

I was thinking about possibly boring out to a 1132 speedwell replica?

Pop the rollers out one by one, Then the plastic cage will slide off leaving just the inner race on the shaft. Then remove the small circlip at the front of the bearing. Once the circlip is of you can undo the nut holding the input gear on which will remove the inner race for you as you wind it off. You will need to jam the flywheel with an old shell bearing to get that nut undone. its a tight one, 150nm if i remember.
