Hi I've the same problem. I haven't got round to turning it off yet but you need to take it to someone with diagnostic equipment so they can do it. It also needs to be of if you r taking it for a mot

Taken from my workshop manual:

The SRS warning lamp illuminates to inform the
driver of any airbag system faults and during a
system self test.

Get it checked out. Or disconnect the light. Done that before.

Quite often this is solved by removing and "reseating" the airbag, and seatbelt pretensioner plugs. Read haynes before attempting this - as the airbag is a little bomb that you dont want going off right in your face...

No they dont.

Ive heard the airbag is ment to be replaced every 10 years anyway.

No they dont.

Minis have pre-tensioners mounted to the actual seat belt reel, within the rear passenger bins. Check / clean and reset these plugs, as well as the actual rotary airbag coupler.

hi

The air bag light being on does not mean it will fail the dreaded MOT.
The airbag light is on most likely because the rotary coupler behind the steering while is faulty if the light is on the airbag wont go off. The airbag has a lifespan of ten years so it probably wouldnt work anyway. If you want to get rid of the light i would just disconnect the SRS ECU under the drivers side rear seat only do this if you have had the battery off for 10 mins. If you get a new rotary coupler or repair the fault it will reset the fault automatically.

Hope this helps

Chris

On the rotary coupler there are spare wires in place for the horn. My horn stopped working so i decided to have a look at the rotary coupler changed what wires it was using on the coupler and it worked again, so it must be common for the wires in the coupler to break. I dont know if there are any spare wires for the airbag in the rotary coupler but it's probably worth having a look, it's easy to do just put the wires on one of the free wires in the coupler make sure you do it for both the front of the coupler and the back and make sure that they correspond.
