I'm no expert. But spoked wheels run inertubes... and cars were built like that.

Maybe there is a certain year from which this rule applies.

Running inner tubes inside tubeless tyres is what's illegal, not simply running them. Or at least everyone says it's illegal, I have never found it actually written anywhere myself. Many tyre fitters won't fit them though. Whether legal or not, it is against the tyre manufacturer's specifications (which is why you can have trouble getting them fitted) which can lead to insurance trouble in the event of a claim. Make sure your insurer knows about it, just in case.

It would appear that it is NOT illegal to run inner tubes in a tubeless tyre however it would need to be the correct type of inner tube for the tyre. Due to modern low profile tyres there are very few if any inner tubes that will fit which is probably the reason why you will never see them fitted.

There are numerous vehicles on the road that use tubed tyres but these are designed for it. Trailers etc will have them but again that also depends on the wheels fitted.

At the end of the day the manufacturer of the tire and its intended use will be the deciding factors as to whether you can use an inner tube in a modern style wheel combination. And the availability of a suitable inner tube.

Have a good search on the internet there is lots of info on there regarding inner tubes in car tyres.

Surely split rim wheels do not need inner tubes, due to the tolerances involved in machining plus suitable sealant then they should hold air pressure no problem??
