it took a couple of hours to modify and fit. the right hand tank is nicer but the cost is crazy.had a spare tank so cost nothing

But the original right hand tank was a converted left hand tank. There wasn't a custom made right hand tank for a long time, not until it became standard fit I believe. For a good while BMC were fitting converted tanks. Twin 7 1/2s is going a bit far though!

u have any pictures of where u made the cuts to make it fit?

i want to do this mod or section half a extra tank and weld the half onto another tank, i guess it would probably be around 10-11gallons, maybe 12 at most

the tank would take up like half the boot but i don't mind

hi dan,yes 15 gallons of capacity is alot but the tank came with the car when I bought it,
waste not, want not as the phrase goes.
hi joakwin
i basically did this...
1. made template with thin card to find position of hole in bodywork
2. position template on r/h side and drill 57mm hole
Attached File  new_phone_pics_038.jpg   11.07K   66 downloads
3. on tank carefully grind around filler pipe and remove,i used a 4" grinder but i think a dremmel would be far better. i ended up with a far to big hole

CAUTION grinding fuel tank could cause big bang!! my tank had been emptied and stored for 2 years so there was no fuel or vapours .
4. weld metal plate over hole.CAUTION AGAIN risk of explosion
5. position tank on r/h side ,unfortunately the lip joining the 2 halves of the tank together fouled the bulkhead/firewall so i carefully with a rubber mallet bent this lip over to allow clearance
6. wedge r/h tank in place ,i used short length of timber
7. once happy with position of tank ,using 57 mm hole saw, drill hole in tank using hole previously drilled in bodywork (as in operation 2) as a guide
8.using jigsaw enlarge hole in body work by about 5mm this allows access to tack weld filler pipe and for the rubber seal to fit
9. take the fuel filler pipe ,this pipe will need grinding up where it was cut out of the tank
10. push filler pipe into tank and position to match l/h hand (sticking up about 35mm off bodywork)
11. i tack welded it in position
12. remove tank and weld around filler pipe
13. give it a coat of paint

thats about it,hope it makes sense.
in this world of health and safety madness i feel i have to show a disclaimer:
obviously i cannot accept any liability for any one following these instructions they are just a guide :)

I'd rather keep the boot space.
