Hi, I have a Weber 45 on a nice 5" manifold (not the swan neck type- it only has about an inch or so of "S" to it), and as I have a bare shell at the moment can someone give me any pics or sizes/dims of where the hole for the airbox needs to be put in? I have a spare engine in a subframe but I'm on my own most of the time so not very easy to put it in to use as a template...

I was scared it wouldnt fit when i welded it in though ;) and in all honesty, it would be nice to be deeper still ;)

edit, with engine in pic, the mahoosive trumpets are rather close to the back edge

Thanks for teh fast replies, mini93 is that a Miglia style set up? I had considered it but wanted to stay with a box, probably similar size to a battery box but deeper as a 5" manifold, 45 DCOE, trumpets and 100mm deep air filter (probably ITG as half the price of K&N and a huge one will not restrict flow) will fill up a box pretty quick!

The thing I guess I really needed to know is the height of the bottom of the box- i.e. does the weber sit over the cross member or does it need modifying? If it sits over the top I can easily make a big box and weld it in where the centre speedo hole is!

its sorta miglia-esk but not quite, i just wanted somewhere neat to mount my megajolt etc will re-do it in the future and make it better

and you wont go wrong with ITG filters anyway, know a guy who works for them

Cool ta, I'm going to do a box like your 2nd pics, though deeper. Do you know roughly how far off the deck the weber sits?

And a rough measurement for cylinder head face to cross member?

been outside now...bit nippy!

best i could measure with a haggard tape measure. 60mm off the deck from the lowest point of the carb. bearing in mind my bulkhead box is basicly level with the master cylinder shelf.
The manifold face to bulkhead measurment, at is furthest point is 140mm roughly
and if you wanted to know, along with my trumpets its 300mm inlet tract from bell mouth to manifold face.

- to try and explain better- the blue rectangle represents the manifold face of the cylinder head, the green line is the measurement between that face and the rear of the cross member/face of original bulkhead.

The red lines represent your modified "shelf", and the purple line is the 60mm gap between your shelf and the underside of the Weber? (I know your box/shelf is a lot deeper than the red lines I drew)

Hopefully that makes it less confusing>?!!

well actualy, iv still got that lowered bit where you have the 2 red lines but basicly yes, thats the height at which i measured the green line from (except a touch further back where i could see the lowest part of the webber)

but that seems about right yes, obviously there could be a bit of difference depending how you have youe engine and mounts poitioned but it wont be a big difference id have thought.

Sweet, thanks for all that it's saved me a big job! The height may vary a little as my manifold looks like it may be a touch straighter than yours, I'll get a filter and measure the length of the set up and go from the virtual head position. I think I'll make a box up in ally and bond/rivet it in place.

ITG also do an over-filter or sock or whatever they call it on demon tweeks as a secondary one for really dusty stages etc, ever heard anything good or bad about them?

an over filter? not heard that no but normal ITG filters are used on all the cars at work without any problems...not sure if that over filters for stuff like desert :S

Gonna bump this thread up ;)

How do you make the cutout for the box?  Does a cutting disc fit in place? Dont have a plasma cutter :/

cheers
