Model (cc), BHP, Time (secs)
Van (850) 34 28.3
Mayfair (998) 41 22.0
Cooper (997) 55 17.2
Cooper (998) 55? 14.8
1275GT (guess) 59 13.2
Cooper S (1071) 70 12.9
Cooper S (1275) 76 10.9
MiniSport (1293) from 90 7.87 (0-50)

I have a Mayfair 998 Auto - 0-60 if you're lucky downhill with the wind in the right direction! lol

My 1310 cc Cooper 'S' rally car was timed 0 - 60 in 7.4 secs using just 1st and 2nd (lots of revs in 2nd, like 7000 rpm) and in 8.4 secs using 1st, 2nd & 3rd and changing up at 6400 rpm.

I'd expect a 998 to be a couple of seconds faster than that Mayfair time - might be for one on an economy diff.

My last 998 did it in around 17 seconds, but that was very poorly tuned.

1275 engine did it in around 11 secs

and my 1380 did it in 8.1

Haven't timed mine but isn't the official 0-60 something like 12,3 secs?

That was on dry smooth level tarmac with 165/70 x 10 Yoko A008's at 34 psi on 4.5" Minilite wheels. Diff ratio is 3.9:1 with SC CR gears, 1:1 drops and c. 115 bhp at 6400 rpm. Diff is a cross-pin and kerb weight is about 715 kg with half-max fuel load (i.e. 5.5 gallons - it has twin 5.5 gall tanks). Wind speed was virtually zero, air temp was around 12 deg C.
Speed was measured using a calibration-checked tacho and getting accurate speeds in gears by calculation and checked against a brantz rally computer. Then a stopwatch facility on the brantz was used for timing. That was with 2 persons in the car.
As with all Minis of over 100 bhp, the limiting factor is controlling the wheelspin whilst keeping it on the cam. On a couple of runs it 'fell-off the cam' and the times were not good. The figures quoted were the average of the best 3 runs. In fact we got 7.3, 7.4 and 7.5 which average at 7.4, so I reckon it fairly accurate.
It doesn't really matter as the real figures are the times on the rally tests!

sounds good!, I'd love to be able to get under 7 with 12" a048s, with a 3.7 diff, hopefully 130bhp with the 296 cam and probably a slightly lighter car as I'll lighten (already started and it doesn't have a cage n stuff yet) it but I'd be happy with under 8, wont be too long before I find out. What do you receon?

You should certainly get sub-8 seconds, but, as always, to get sub-7 secs the issue is management of the initial wheelspin. With a 296 cam you will need to quickly get it up to around 5800 rpm by slipping the clutch and balancing the wheelspin, then keep it between 5800 and 7000 rpm for best acceleration. A lower diff would help, but that would reduce your cruising speed and I'm assuming you have a SC CR gear set and a competition clutch.
A limited slip diff would help, but they are not very friendly and personally I can't get on with them, despite trying them in other peoples car during testing.
Yours sounds a very good car. Will you use it in competition as it sounds as though it would be good for sprints and hill-climbing?
I always think how much quicker my 'S' would accelerate if i took all the rally equipment off, like sump shield, trip computer, spotlights, etc.

The car will only be used for track days and nurburgring at the moment, then the plan is to do some hill climbs maybe next year and go from there. The engien is at the builders at the moment but It's got a SC set + drops, and the clutch is a orange clutch but I wanted to test that to save the thursts :D the clutch plate is minispares £57 one, the problem with my engine is it's a 1430 so it's going to be a bit difficult to get it into a <1400 class but I bought the long stroke crank before I realised that ;)
