Hi guys,

So did exactly what you said, remove engine myself. However, im stumped on pretty much the last bit.

I can't remove the pins from the gear linkage.

Posted Image

Ive used a 3mm drill bit whilst the car is in reverse but they are just doing nothing, im whacking them extremely hard. I've tried using a punch but to no avail!

Going to give it another go tomorrow but it just isnt budging.

To clarify, which am i trying to take out...?

The one closest to the engine or the one to the rear of the car?

Thanks.

This is by no means the definitive way to do it but,

I push the inner one nearest the gearbox out sufficiently to undo the linkage, doesn't need to come all they way out and if I remember it won't come out completely cause of fouling on gearbox.

I cannot remember which gear gives the best clearance, bur I leave it in neutral and select the gear that is best using the shaft.

To push the pin out you need a tool that does not go into the centre of the pin as this splays it out and makes it grip the outside and hard to get out. I sacrificed an old Phillips screwdriver which flattens to the correct size when you hit it. It does sometimes take some effort to get moving then it is easy.

Hope that helps.

Matt

Whichever you can get at more easily. You need a proper parallel punch - the right size. And wedge a bit of wood behind to hold the rod steady while you 'punch' it!

It won't come out. I tried for like an hour! I can't think of anyother way except drilling...?

I wouldn't be hitting the one nearest the gearbox. It's sticking out a bit and looks like it would/has "squashed" outwards where being hit, stopping it move. I would drift out the other one, with a block of wood supporting, as bmc said. Good luck!

Thats just a diagram i found, it isn't my gear linkage.

Ill try again tomorrow but its bloody hard work! Two of us tried it for like 1-2 hours

In the meantime i need to found an engine to replace mine whilst i rebuild it or just sell it as spares.

What about this: http://cgi.ebay.co.u...=item3cb5759335

Thanks

It wants to be the one towards the rear of the car, in reverse. It just needs a good 'wack'! Make sure there's enough clearance under the car to swing at it. Good luck!

P.s. Use new roll pins!

Steve.

To sell it for more or I might just sell it as is. What do you think?

Piston rings - suspect. And small end tap.
