Hello

I have a Hotpoint Aquarius WDL520 washer dryer which has decided to have a strop and stopped working. It's going between 2 different problems.

After a wash last week it didn't unlock so after turning it on and off (technical eh) a few times it eventually unlocked. Went to put a wash on at the weekend, loaded it up, selected the program firmly shut the door hit the start button and the lock light started flashing checked the door was shut and it still wouldn't work. Turned it on and off a few times and it locked when I turned the power on, hit the start button and it let water in for a split second then stopped and wouldn't do anything. After a couple of turning it off and on it unlocked.

Now turning it on it will do either the flashing locked light or the lock and let a split second of water in. Does anyone have any experience/knowledge of washing machines and can help me out before I have to take the plunge and get a call out from an engineer?

Thanks
Neil

I'm not trained in 'white goods' but my washing machine would refuse to unlock and my red light would sometimes flash uncontrollably indicating a fault, I had to unplug the washer to get it to work aswell.

I managed to fix this by simply replacing the plug socket on the wall.

Is your steam pipe at the back leaking? mine was and that was what messed up my washing machine socket.

Can't see a problem with the waste pipe leaking, not sure if this is what you meant by steam pipe?

I'll try and run it off a different plug to see if that helps.

Anyone else?

I'm not an engineer but having had a few problems with washing machines over the years I might be able to help with this one. There is usually a micro switch on the door latch that stops you opening the door when the machine is running. I believe that the micro switch is designed to "fail safe" meaning that if stops working properly it will lock your washing in, as opposed to letting you open the door and flood your house!

From what I understand, it's a common problem for this switch to develop a fault and therefore lock the door when it shouldn't, (which seems to be what is happening in your case) if you replace the switch then the problem should resolve itself. The main problem is getting to the switch as it's at the front of the machine and access is usually through the back of the machine! Meaning you have to reach around the drum to get to it, on some models I think you can pull the washing powder drawer out completely and reach down to remove the switch through the drawer aperture.

Hope this helps!!

Ah sounds plausable, I can get to it by taking the top off the machine otherwise it's from underneath as the back and sides are one piece! Will have to look into sourcing the part, any ideas?

Any other suggestions much appreciated.

the 'steam pipe' is the plasticy springy type pipe that comes out the back that you fix to the vent on the wall to let the steam escape, dont think you get one on a condenser dryer.

Upon googling for faults for the dryer, it mentioned about fauld codes. does the light flash in any particular sequance?
