Do not know whether the year etc effects it....doubtful, but I have a 2000 sportspack.

Is it a simple fix, with minimal tools to tighten up my handbrake a little?

Bit of a guide, pics would help...don't want to take it to a garage if I can help it, trying to do things for myself these days.

Cheers guys/gals

Are you sure that handbrake adjustment is actually the problem? The rear brakes on a mini are not self adjusting like on modern cars, you have to manually adjust the rear brakes every few hundred miles to compensate for the wear on the rear brake shoes. If you do not do this regularly, then you will have to pull the handbrake up further and further over time, in order to get the rear shoes to make contact with the rear drums, which often makes you assume that it's the handbrake that needs adjustment, when in fact it doesn't.

In which case it's really quite simple and can be done inside the car with a couple of spanners. If you tilt the front seats forward and lift up the carpet around the back of the handbrake lever, you should see a cable adjusting nut that can be turned in either direction to tighten or loosen the cable. The adjusting nut is held in position by a lock nut that will have to be loosened first in order to make any adjustments. (the mechanism is actually fairly self explanatory when you look at it). As I mentioned earlier do make sure that your rear brakes are adjusted correctly though before making any adjustments to the cable itself. The handbrake cable on a mini should not need adjusting routinely and once fitted usually only needs adjusting if it has stretched (in which case you probably should be considering a replacement item anyway.)

Cheers man, thats awesome news.

Truth of it its, it was replaced not long ago because it was rusted and the people who replaced it didn't do a very good job of it, as I seem to remember it always being abit loose.

Brakes are fairly new too so that shouldn't be an issue.

Cheer, will give it a shot.
