Model: Cooper Si
Year: 1995
Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible):
Hello

This evening I noticed that my indicators weren't working, and then to my horror that neither were my brake lights or reverse lights. (Indicators don't light up externally, the dash lights or the clicking.)

Everything else is working, including the hazards (which according to the manual are on the same fuse as the indicators).

I haven't had any electrical issues before this.

Any ideas?

Thank you

Luke

Its probably one of your fuses, or a loose connection. Check the fusebox for any blown ones. If you cant see any just wiggle the wires around and see if that works haha

Check the first fuse down in the fuse box to see if the glass fuse has blown, it's connected to the brake lights, reverse lights, indicators and also the rear screen demister & headlight dim/dip relay too!

It's the later type fuse block, I think 24-block. They definitely aren't all on the same fuse, which bafflingly rules that!

PS everything other than listed things works, including rear demister and dim/dip.

Have you tried fuse C6 15amp. This covers all the circuits you mention. Hazards are also part powered by C4 so that's why they still work.

Thank you! It turns out I I didn't read the manual properly, my bad! The indicator lights are on one fuse (the one I saw) but the indicator *relay* is on a different one (the one that went).

Thanks all.

Luke.

Alas, it blew again, twice. Once when just turning the ignition on, with none of the things sharing that fuse in use.

How can I trace the fault? Hoping to get this sorted by morning so I can drive to work!

Have a look at the wires on the reverse light switch. One of these is live and switches the other live when you select reverse and sends the power to the bulb. Chances are they've either got very wet in all this rain, or may have chafed and broken and touchng the chasis. Dont want to teach to suck eggs, but it under the car on the gearbox remotes under the gearstick.

Thanks for the suggestion Bob_R. I'm going to attempt to look at gearbox remote as soon as I find a spare second when there's actually some daylight! I aim to get up extra early tomorrow morning to take a look before work. *goes off to check what time sunrise is*

This morning was met with progress followed by failure. I identified a section of exposed wire on one of the reverse light wires going into the gearstick housing. I repaired that and then tested everything which appeared to be perfectly fine. "Success," I thought. I then drove the car around a bit as a test and everything was still fine.

matty121 - if you have the same problem as me, the above should sort you out.

However...

I then attempted to start again to drive to work but I seem to have broken my ability to disable the immobiliser, so I can't start the car. The immobilier isn't on the same fuse as far as I can tell so I must have disturbed it somehow, perhaps while replacing the fusebox cover. I disconnected and reconnected the two blocks of wires going into what I believe to be the immobilier unit, sadly to no avail.

Any ideas!?

Fixed! The immobiliser problem was due to the key fob I was using decided to stop working at the exact moment of trying to test the car. I did try my spare but didn't know how to pair it at the time (left button * 4, right button *1).

Thanks for your help all, Bob_R was right on the money.
