As above.
Ive taken off the flywheel cover, which was a little fiddly, but i want to take the housing out. In the Haynes it says remove the engine, but im looking at it thinking do i really have to?
Thanks

Nope its an engine out job...You can undo all the nuts and bolts while its sill in the car but you just cant get it over the crank tail because the subframe gets in the way. You could just jack up one side of the engine to gain the space but you will have to undo all the bits (Manifolds, cooling) so you might as well just wheek it out.. We han an engine out and on the floor in 45 mins yesterday... But thats a record for us... Give your self 1.5hrs..

You can, but to be honest it just easier to take the whole lot out...
If you do want to try it 'in car', remove the top radiator bracket, this allows you to jack up the flywheel side of the engine at such an angle and affords the necessary clearance to remove the transfer case over the crank tail.
