my wheels are 10x5.5 inches, so i am assuming the standard size tyre will be 165/10 ? can anyone suggest which tyres will be the best as there is plenty of choice :L, also would it be safe to stretch 145/10 inch tyres onto my rims ? or would that be getting dangerous ?

You will need 165's
I'd say it depends on how you use your car... Yoko A008's grip well but wear pretty quick. Falken's grip ok, and in my experience have lasted longer. I've got A008's on my run around, I only do about 100 miles a week and arnt to concerned about wear rate.

A008s. Definitely.
Well okay I don't really have anything to compare them to but they beat the last tyres I had on there. Forget the name but they sucked. Especially in the wet.

I recently fitted these imported Japanese Dunlop R7 Road/Race 165/70x10 tyres with the classic 1960's Dunlop CR65 tread pattern, nice but not cheap (for Mini tyres) especially if you have a Mini as your daily driver!

I've run falkens and A008's (plus 32R's) and I didn't like the falkens, the grip levels where quite low and poor in the wet. Always found that A008's last pretty well to be honest(got over 10k and a couple of action day sessions), and have been impressed with them in the wet as well. They are the tyre of choice for me on a road mini.
32R's are a different level though, but I found they needed to get some heat in them for them to work well (horrid round combe in the wet, A008's worked much better).

The SP Sport R7 grips very well but doesn't last. One of the main reason for fitting them is that it looks like a CR65 - something probably rather lost on the majority of those on this forum.

I run yoko A032's for my daily driver, i do a lot of driving but they are only just going to last me a year, same as with the falkens i used to use (10 inch wheels i'm running)
