Juju,

You looked on parkatmyhouse or similar for a garage?

I found a garage in Colchester for £15 a week, attached to the owners house, so got my convertible tucked up in there, and a few boxes of bits at the back.

May be worth considering as it's much quicker then the council.

I talked with a few mates about renting a council unit - opposite my unit - total cost for heated 1200 sq foot was £900.00 per month......we worked it out to approx £60.00 per car per month, but that was squeezing them in a bit.

latest dumb idea was to buy a caravan - take the back end out and drive in  caravan storage is cheap as chips round here - about 7 quid a week

Don't fink you can get a cadillac in a caravan. It might make it bulge in funny places. :(

There's a caravan unit nearby. I might just buy a hefty scout tent or similar. (Not a tent for hefty scouts...)

If you are able to park the vehicles off the road and have the space, have you looked into those flat pack garages you can buy. As they can be assembled and disassembled they class as temporary structure and so shouldn't need planning permission. I don't know if this would please the insurance companies though. Just an idea.

I don't know where you are, guessing darn sarf, but there's a place in Manchester that stores cars for much less than what you were quoted, like £25 a month I think, they do extras too, like starting it once a week, cleaning, rotating tyres and stuff.
Have you googled classic car storage?

Ryan

...The cheapest unit in the local area is £6,000 a year. It has a small downstairs unit that could probably fit both cars, and an upstairs office, so not much use.

When we upgrade from that to a small warehouse unit on an industrial estate, we move into 12K+ a year territory. It would provide enough space for maybe four cars (?) to get in and out easily.

There are companies near us that specialise in this, and may be our only option. They charge £86.67 +VAT per month to store your car, and they require 24 hours notice for you to gain access.

I don't have the space. This is the issue. If I had space, there would be no issue....

Yes thank you.
I live in Surrey. High on population, low on space, high on prices.

Ta. I've been asking around in pubs & stuff. I may resort to putting an ad in the local paper.

As above.
Down here (where everybody has clipped BBC accents) everything costs a fortune.
