Just wondering if people have ever tried keeping a car in a self-storage unit, like Big Yellow or Shurguard? :D

Repost Bungle!

Not much use, either, I'm afraid. I'd have to find space to store the truck too. :D

Is this for the GT?

How about seeing if you can do a deal with a business who could use it promotionally - just thinking outside the (big yellow) box.

It's for the GT & a friend's cadillac too. Adrian Flux now refuse to insure it, as do other classic car insurers, because it is kept outside.

Need a small warehouse, ideally.

W&P will have it for a while, but they are short on space now. Finding a business in the locale who have 'spare' space is a tall order, especially when you tell them you need access 24/7.....oh, and insurance. :D

Business opportunity!

Find all those classic car owners who can't get no insurance now 'n rent a unit to sub let to them.

You could stick Tommy in the Caddie's boot. problem shared is a problem halved.

We have discussed that. The cheapest unit in the local area is £6,000 a year. It has a small downstairs unit that could probably fit both cars, and an upstairs office, so not much use.

When we upgrade from that to a small warehouse unit on an industrial estate, we move into 12K+ a year territory. It would provide enough space for maybe four cars (?) to get in and out easily.

That's the rent on its own. Add ameneties. Add insurance. And security cameras.

It all adds up very quickly, even with 4 of you sharing.

There are companies near us that specialise in this, and may be our only option. They charge £86.67 +VAT per month to store your car, and they require 24 hours notice for you to gain access.

Take the fuel tank out and push it in, (quick release fuel tank bolts?)

You could also try calling your local council housing association as they often have garages that you can rent for the storage of a private vehicle for as little as £6 a week

I think they'd have words to say about that. But I can always ask.

I did that 4 years ago. Still on the waiting list. :D

Hi Juju,

Do you have a Safestore anywhere near you? Location search is here: http://www.safestore...ge/default.aspx

I know the one in Reading does let you store cars - in fact they specifically mention both car and boat storage on the website for the Reading store:

"# Garaged car storage available
# Boat storage also available"

Worth a look if you have one nearby?

Hi. Thanks for that. I just gave them a bell & they don't store vehicles in our neck of the woods.

Just called Shurguard & they have the same policy as Roofless mentioned. All fuel must be drained before storage, so it's really only long-term that they're after.

The hunt goes on.....
