now Muk is on the road, it is time to play with Evy,....... yes it has been a while,.. I have not got a game plan as yet however, a lot needs doing, the front end is strong again after a bit of doing in Feb and March, I have got a second hand rear panel and that is the first point I want to repair, if that one is in the floors will be next and quarter panels and and and and .......

here are a few piccies from today
rear panel...wha is left if it

cleaning up and tidying of the donor panel, drilling out spotwelds, sanding cutting excess quarter panel of etc, not a nice job, but will be better in the end.

I thought you might,..... this wont be an easy one I can tell you that... the front is strong for now but the rear,......bracing....... lot of planning and logic constructive attack!!!just like a game of chess.

After a sweltering sticky weekend working, I got back to the rear panel today, removed all the excess quarter trim, and roof strips and all sorts of extra bits.

I wanted to clean it from all the filler and sealants and found that it had a O/Sbottom repair done in the past, a bit of a shady job(buckets of filler), N/S not much better.

Then again it is a donor panel so not moaning about it, cleared all the muck of first and then got a tin of nitro-morse on it, cleared and cleaned the lot both sides and drenched it in petrol after to clear all the excess stripper.

End result,...not bad, ready for a bit of welding soon.

This afternoon had an hour to work on the rear panel, after cleaning all the paint of a few days ago, I invested in some KURUST........

the following picture will explain where I used the Kurust.

Got a few corner repair panels from Mini-Machine, always helpfull people there, the O/S needs a full repair piece while the nearside is not that bad, just the ledge +30mm.I marked the corners so any luck tomorrow I will cut and tack on the panels.

Good work, if I were you i'd be starting to plan the one after this now!

The rear corner bits are a pretty awful panel, I like to use the full heritage lower panel, bit more expensive but fits nicely.

Shifty, yes I am planning the next one already,..........'61.......

when you say awfull. I assume you mean the curb is not perfect? I know the heritage panel would be a perfect straight fit but at a cost as you say, I will think about it this weekend.....might have to sell sommit first.

Yeah, its a pretty awful panel. Looking at your donor panel the bumper lip looks a bit ropey as well. May as well just cut the crappy bits out and stick new metal in. It will be easier and look nicer that the two end panels.

A '61 you say.......I may have pop over and investigate...!!

I see what you mean, repair rather then replace.Food for thought, thanks.....my idea was to put in first the corner's ,mould them to have a nice bend, so to speak, then cut the remaining lip away and weld a new lip(make a template first).
by the way Minimachine full width will be about 75 notes.

Now, why did I not think about that one first,...honestly, I have been looking for those full bottum repair panels but pricing of panels have gone rather crazy in the last 3 years. I will have a go at repairing the corners first, other half will be loving a bit of matal bashing over the weekend,...do I care......

took your advice Shifty, repairing the bad bits.

spending a lot time of templates making today, then again result shows, patience required and cups of tea.
first the nearside bottum corner

Attached File  DSC02001a.jpg   52.74K   9 downloads

then the lip

off-side corner still to do, panel beating with hammer and dolly first and see how it comes out. then decide what to cut out appart from the lip that needs replacing

after the corner is finished and the new lip is on, I will make the bumper bolt holes and sand back the lip back to 22mm between the bumper bolt holes.
