Good to see you again and good to see your great repairs. That's massive front reconstruction!
All the best, Hugh
As I said to Hugh, every repair is a step closer to the finish, nice to have you back.
Graham
cheers guys, sometimes it is ok to stay away from a mini, however not a day goes passed without thinkin and plannin, had to tidy loose ends yesterday to get a clear vision what to do next, ....ohh yes and the gearbox....started last night re-assembling, what a pallaver.....rod-change gearboxes, no prob any size....but remote 3synchromesh, is interesting indeed, because of course no-one sells any parts of those....

Best bits for me so far have been engine and gearbox, whether they will ever work again is another question but only simple rod change. Why r u putting an early gearbox in, the mini isn't 60's is it. Sorry if missed that bit!!
Graham, Evy is from 1971, but made earlyer, her engine is from 1969 and has a few gearbox isseues, so found this 1965 box and get it ready for when I attack the 1969 engine, straight swap so to speak... with a few hurdlers no doubt, but just love the challenge to get old working again....

Good luck with the gearbox. One area I never tackled, but lining up for a 4 synchro remote box.

good luck with the 4Synchro box, the one I am doing is an early 3 synchro one, most of the stuff in there not even in old BMC or Haynes books,.. just a nice puzzle

Catching up to do,......it is not easy to see, but the 4synchro has a 1st speed gear between the 1st/2nd synchro and the double bearing, and yr layshaft and gear is different nd more teeth on that one, but agree easyer to see next to each other...Major progress Muk, subbie on !! Have been looking at the gearbox and can't tell the differences, but maybe easier if both next to each other. Glad you are working regularly again.

I've never done a gearbox and hope I never will. Brave man. But everything you do is brave!!
Hugh
Cheers Hugh, I would not call it brave,...just a bit nuts will do. The gearbox is the heart of a mini, got to have it running smooth,I got to feel it and listen to it before itgets covered up, it will get a center oil pick up for a better oil flow arround bends, the rest of the engine will follow, and get's the same treatment, that way I know what I have under my bonnet and treat it with respect and know how far I can pull him/her,....
I know you can do it to having seen what you have become in a wee while, just another puzzle. and exiting one to.

then I welded the repair piece in position, which was a job and a half, but nearly finished, just need to weld a lip on the subby tower end, and rail on the top.
