Definitely getting a spot welded for next project. Saves all the grinding back. Back end looking good.

Yep you are right there, I will get all lined up for the day(s) I have the machine, If it is a handy tool I might even buy one for my next project........

filling and sanding is ongoing, roof corner repairs.... thought I make a start on the full floor replacement B4 the arches, keep some stenght in the car.

cleared loose rust debreze out of the footwel and tunnel, appart from the obvious floor hole, I noticed a plate on the front tunnel area, covering the 'Magic wand' hole, the tunnel is a Mk2...and has also a remote gear change (alu box) hole for the origional engine, and when I got the car the was a rod change gear linkage in that hole....previous owner liked a bitta change now and then.....

as you can probably make out, the bottum 4" from the toe board panel needs replacing from flitch till just after the subby mounting, tunnel needs a good clean after the floor panel is cut out, then close up the Magic wand hole and weld on the fabricated toe board repair piece, cut out the crossmember half on the nearside and the rest of the rear floor.... cut new floor to fit....and bob's yr uncle....a bitta weldin...... In theory ;D

started to repair/replace footwell rot on nearside,
starting to cut out the front floor piece first.
although the main flitch panel was replaced I notice a bit more virus near the toe-board going up into the top corner that needed to be sorted, cut out 2 " strip and replaced with new piece, then I was able to cut out the bad toe-board piece and made a new piece 1.2mm thick steel.

next tunnel repair and closing up the magic wand hole

Nice repair as usual muk. I take it you are just readying it for a complete floor to slot in in one go. Can't remember half or full floor?? Have you swapped engine to a rod change for the remote, seeing the hole is going??

Thanks Graham,
full floor replacements on both sides, and yep readying at a steady pace, I must get Muk ready too for Himley Hall on the 8th July.
I only seal of the magic wand hole in the toe-board, planning to keep the old origional 1969 engine with the remote gear linkage(box). the refurb of that one in the winter. If that one is salvageble, If not I have a 1300 on stand by and I can always use the same remote hole and change that one into a rod-change (bitta welding needed). But that is far away yet.. :shades:

this morning we supposed to go to Himley Hall. cancelled again because of rain.......it has been sunny sinds 10am........
spend a bit of time finishing and dressing the toe-board.footwell repairs before moving on to cutting the 1/2 crossmember on nearside and rear floor.

seam welded the inner flitch to repair piece and seamed the tunnel repair piece, then sanded back and gave the whole area a good coating of Por15 before a layer of primer.

I did say yesterday might have a good day today......I think so!!!

to begin

cut out the rotten floor and 1/2 crossmember
Attached File  nearside footwell and tunnel 9pg.jpg   107.78K   8 downloads

cleaned up the tunnel and looking for bad rust, cleaned surface rust

fitting the full floor, not easy as the companion bin makes it a tight fitting exersize. a bit tweeking and all in position, made weld holes for spotwelding and tighten all with cleco pins first
Attached File  nearside footwell and tunnel 10pg.jpg   106.37K   15 downloads

removed one by one the cleco pins and replaced those with self tappers to tighten the joint.
Attached File  nearside footwell and tunnel 11pg.jpg   115.72K   10 downloads

Attached File  nearside footwell and tunnel 12pg.jpg   112.63K   13 downloads

enough for today..... ;D
