looks as if its goin well so far , what do you think is it easyer or harder than you was thinking it was goin to be ???



yep easy as expected, just planning is the biggest part, and asking what if,.....several times before using the cutter, Bracing is also a good move doing this kinda operation :shifty: :shifty: :shifty:

yep easy as expected, just planning is the biggest part, and asking what if,.....several times before using the cutter, Bracing is also a good move doing this kinda operation :shifty: :shifty: :shifty:

Half an hour, that's about a three hour and two cups of coffee job here, guess that's why I am taking so long, lol !!


you are doing a great job at your own speed, and that is what counts, I had a few cuppa's aswell......

haha problem being is i cant afford it but yet im still hopefully going to see a mini thats lying in a field on friday that my mate spotted, hopefully its an older mk and then somehow get it haha and just store it until the funds are there :-)

to be honest i have no idea, its in a village called saintfield about 15mins drive from where i live so il just have to wait and see what its like :-)

yet another update,....

I made another repair piece as the Blue one, made yesterday was to thin .89mm while the old cut out piece was 1.18mm, so I made one from 1.2mm


lined up next to each other, happy with the shaping


and the final fit before treating with Por15

top window panel stiffener neede repairing, new piece cut-out

like this kinda fettling, will look good after. And am happy that I left the old roof on and not replaced it with a donor roof.

rear roof repair continue,.....

cleaned stiffener surface rust off as much as possible

used 'cleaning fleece disk' and clamped repair pieces in position


tacked them on

welded and sanded with flap disk and finished with fleece disk


Por15 time tmr.....
the cut out gutter will be replaced when offering the rear donor panel, and keep the rest of the origional guttering.

All in good time Graham, I was welding in the sun today,......just fab..... burned myself a few times just wearing a T-shirt and Shorts....I know Mad!!, I did not Use Por15 today but Zinc primer on the roof stiffener and the welded roof repair.

rear panel prep continiue,........

this morning I have cleaned and zinc primed the rear quarter/panel lips and preped, cut out and repaired parcel shelf,... one step closer


Piccies before, you can see I left a 3 mm sleeve under the gutter, for the new panel to be wellded to, this way it will be easyer to sand back smooth

that's it for today, invested in an Gunson CO2 tester, always handy to have before MOT. Got Muk an hour retuning session booked, nice sound and set CO2 on 3%

Looks like a very methodical repair going on !! Guess it has to be with such a critical bit which fits everywhere. Looking really good, keep the pics comming.
