Started on the rear panel repair, the pictures will tell you all, not for the faint heated, tihis is only day 1

First Barcing the rear end, but where.....used top of the arches and crossed through rear bulkhead to the existing cross-bracing this should keep all in place till new donor panel is fitted....

sanded back the paint on window seal lip for plugwelds

Drilled plugwelds out,
Attached File  all drilled plugwelds exept boot lid lock bracket.jpg   77.45K   13 downloads

used angle grinder with 1mm cutting disk to do the honours, no wonder there was no spare wheel
Attached File  no backend.jpg   68.7K   27 downloads

inspecting bits to do, nearside guttering plus stiffener needs a 10" replacement

other that that but surface rust here and there, and a bit of repairs on the parcel shelf lip in corners.

just to make sure......
Attached File  just checking if it is the right one.jpg   68.81K   22 downloads

might sell this one on fleabay

thats it for today, every day another step, gutter repair tomorrow perhaps

Well, it's a while since someone had a boot as crappy as that on a build !! I see the bash on the old rear panel, but did you replace the lot because it is easier than smaller repairs, as a lot of it looks fine ??

More gutter repairs, but then you are used to them now !! Nice work as ever.

Graham, to be honest the old panel ha a lot of hidden rust but still covered with paint, the bash was not repairable even with dollies and hammers, I did try but in the end it would be a complete patch up of a panel, top and bottum and not worth the time and efford,...the donor panel is good and will be prepped to his new position in a few weeks. All little repairs first and Por15 here and there,...... ;D

Just found your project buddy, great job! Your repair panels on the roof and gutters are fantastic, you must be chuffed? Look forward to the end result.
I used electrolysis on most of the smaller parts on my project. Learnt it off a mate that did most of his Alvis TA14 with it, even the front wings! lol

Cheers Duncan, appreciate your comments, this project is just fab, bout 3 hours a day and ye think yr there,.....no chanse in that,.... and then start again.
Electrolysis is indeed a great way to clean and preserve good old usable bits you need again when reassembling, will safe a few bob.
Still need to do her engine and will go the same way in the bucket... ;D
