I don't know if this is the right place so if not please forgive me. I have the above laptop and I'm looking to do a factory reset to speed it up. If anyone knows about pc's or has this laptop any help would be appreciated.

Before resetting it, why not take everything off it and put it onto an external HDD. Then run the "Defrag" tool. Then right click on your C: Drive & Properties. Do a disk cleanup.

This should probably help with your speed issues :P

Other than that, if you want a totally clean start, just make sure you've got copies of all of your programmes, so you can put them back on again. And make sure you've got all your files off the computer.

You'll need the restore disks - If it's a newish one, you should be able to burn a couple from the partitioned drive. (There'll be a programme somewhere on your computer to make them) - If it's an oldish one, you'll need the OS disk & the drivers & utilities disk. Oh - And your OS Key - Which is sometimes on the computer itself, on a sticker.

Oh - and don't do a "system restore"

Hope this helps! :-

During the boot process, press the F8 key at very frequent intervals, until the menu
"Advanced Boot Options" appears. That will give you the "Repair your Computer"
function. Once Windows has loaded a few files, "System Recovery Options" will come up,
select the option "Fujitsu Siemens Computers Recovery" with the sub-item "Easy backup and recovery
of your system". and away you go...

You will loose everything on your pc if you do a factory restore though, so make sure you have backups of everything.

Dont do a standard windows install! Chances are you will screw up the hidden partition which contains all of your operating system, drivers, pre-loaded software, license keys etc.

It will change the MBR (master boot record) effectively rendering that data useless.

I have tried using f8, the advanced boot option appears but no function to repair the computer.

What options do you get when you press F8?

The alternative is Shift-F10

this is easier and faster + your computer ends up faster than it would if you were to use the recovery partion, if you have disks then only use the O/S disk and then download the drivers after
