Hey guys, iv applied a load of the rust remover gel, but im not sure how to remove it before paint. The instructions are not clear on it at all.

Do you wipe it off then paint, or paint straight over it?

cheers

I’ll double check in the morning, but I’m 99% certain that’s what’s on the label of the half used white tub of green goo I have in the garage.

From my personal experience, hence the half used pot I have in the garage. Is unless it’s really light surface rust, it’s normally a lot quicker just to rub it off with course sandpaper than use that stuff and wait.

sand paper it off then get a wire brush to make sure its out of all the pits.

used to work in bodyshop for 6 years n i could never understand why you washed it off either so i just used sandpaper or a scotchbrite to fetch worst off then wire brush completes it

agree with all above.......and I usually rag a bit of 'Kurust' over as well prior to priming.

its kinda 'belt and braces' but it give peace of mind that it'll slow down rust re-appearing. :o

Isn’t it the same with most paint strippers that have to be washed off after? :)

I've always wiped as much of it off as I can and then used panel wipe on the bare metal to clean it before putting a few coats of kurust on.

I'd say so, I used it a few years 2 years ago on my bulkhead and there is no sign of any rust returning.

I recommend you give it plenty of coats before you wipe it all off and then a few coats of kurust. before you stick primer on.
