Yes - but so is the Haynes Manual - a quiet evening spent reading and digesting will prevent basic mistakes...... Sounds like this Mini has been run for 3 months without the oil level ever being checked.......... :o

rotten throttle cable,+ flat battery, (and being a full time student with a provisional licence) = nothing for 3 months! he's been sat on the driveway, only been out once since august unfortunately, so the oil hasn't needed topping up until now as i've sorted out the first two problems. although im still a student! haha

Little tip....tie a little rag around your dipstick top (or anywhere in the engine bay) and you can check your oil levels as and when required.

I did know someone who topped up their Metro's water through the oil filler, so it's a lot less embarrassing (and expensive) to ask.


I had a customer who filled up their engine in their golf buggy with petrol through the oil filler on the rocker. TWICE.
