I am looking at getting the Tamiya mini kit. However as always am confused.
I am an R/C newbie. Does anyone know what I need to get it running (other than the kit).
Don't want to spend loads extra on top of the kit but don't want budget.
Specific items would help...all the "servo" talk and stuff is confusing.
Also looking at the kit, some sites say the kit is clear shell needs painting and some do not.
HELP PLEASE!!!

The kit would usually include a motor and Esc (electronic speed control) so you need a set of radio gear.
I would go for something like this http://www.modelspor...roduct_id=38190
They also have trigger type versions to.
Whilst a bit more expensive there is no worry of anyone else using same frequency as you etc and far more reliable.
This includes the reciever and one servo you need for the steering.
As for the body which kit do you have? do you know the tamiya 5 digit number?
most likely be clear shell painted from inside using polycarbonate paint etc,

You will see a sign that says, Kit Price £xxx Deal Price £xxx.
The kit is just that, the car kit, the deal as just said, is everything to get you going, Car Kit, 1 battery, Slow Charger and radio gear.

I have never understood why they do an XB kit. A lot of the fun and satisfaction is building the thing in the first place in my opinion.Know what you mean, you will also need a battery and charger for car and usually 8 aa's for transmitter.

What is the difference between M03 and M05?, because a complete kit would be good.
Russ
Not a lot from what ive read on tamiya forums, unless you are racing etc. I knew the M05 was coming out but went for m03 as it
was cheaper.

I would never buy XB one, but for some peeps its easier or they dont have time to build and paint. I do have one of tamiyas XB painted 94' monte carlo bodies that
is amazing!
I love building the kits and tamiyas are some the best!

controller (either trigger or stick types) this kit will come with the controller a servo and reciver so nearly all the stuff needed. - i use a spektrum trigger controller 2.4ghz wireless
battery (7.2v battery pack) in arrangement of === so 2 cells in a line of three. there are many batteries out atm including lipo's
lipo's will last a lot longer but will need a lipo charger to regulate and charge the cells
a battery charger (to charge 7.2v)
8 aa batterys rechargeble
aa battery charger
kit comes with a motor and esc
tire glue
a few tools to put the car together (screwdrivers, knife)
and some polycarbonate paint
the shell comes with some stickers to cover the windows when spraying the shell
although the more expensive kit comes with a fully painted shell
and the m-03 can be brought to assemble or ready to go (charge batteries and go)
best bet if your a noobie is to join a forum or a club
whats your intention (bit of fun or racing)
i used to race on club level every fri night inside on carpet
we could have up to 10 mini's a night all running the same motor and it was a good laugh
there are a few model sites aswell:
modelsport
microtech-racing
al's hobbies
can just google model shops

hope that helps

Got myself the Rally M03 mini XB.
Mega....thats about all I can say.
But the reason I didn't want to build my first one myself became apparent within 30seconds of playing when I have scuffed the wheels, rolled it, smashed the bumper, cracked the front end....you get the pic, it hit a few curbs and rolled a few times.
I will be building a new shell at some point (when I have got used to controls), where can you get the grill, bumpers etc, been looking but can't find anything other than blank shells.
Are there any decent bits out there, roof racks etc?
