Hi everyone!!

Iv recently decided to give my mini a full overhall by doing all the neccessary bodywork and giving her a full respray and whilst i was at it i thought i sure i might aswell add a little more poke to my 1340! >_<
Adding a Jack Knight Straight cut Box with cross pin diff, Weber 40, and kent 286 scatter cam.
I have searched the forum in regards fuelling issues but just wanted some advice.
The facet orange top fuel pump runs at 4.5-5 psi (18 gallons per hour), i was just wondering is this sufficient to fuel the weber? and as regards fitting the pump can i use the original fuel line from boot and just link it to the regulator at the bulkhead? any help would be appreciated
thanks Darren

Not seen a orange pump, but assuming it's the same as the red one yes it'll be fine and yes you need the regulator fuel pipe size will/should be ok.

cheers for the advice,
I bought it from jonspeed, came as a kit with regulator, filter and blanking plate. Do you have any idea what psi i will need to run with the Weber 40?

From your posts you seem to think the pressure developed is more important than the flow supplied. It's the other way around, in a carb installation the fuel pressure in the supply systm only has to be enough to get the float valves opening smoothly and not so high it forces the valve open when it should be closed. Anything between 2 and 5 psi will be good enough, a pressure regulator is a good idea to prevent any pulsing in the fuel supply rate that might be caused by the pump pressure and to set it exactly where you find you need it. The fuel pressure to the actual jets is controlled inside the carb. Flow rate is far more important, it's the rate at which the engine is burning the fuel that you need to keep up with. 18 gallons/hr should be fine, although I've never heard of an orange top pump either!

thanks dan,
i understand that flow rate is important i just wanted reassurance that the pump was adequate.
I too had never heard of an orange top facet pump i was looking for a red top, until someone told me about the kits that were available.
here's the fuel pump anyway.

I would not refer to the pump in the eBay link as an "orange top" Facet pump. The pumps referred to a "XYZ Top" Facet pumps are the cylindrical ones as shown in the link below:
http://www.facet-pur...em/gold-oem.jpg

What your eBay link is showing is the traditional Facet "cube" pump. They are a common replacement for the original SU pumps on some Minis. (Although the ones used are typically the ones that deliver 2-3.5 PSI). The brick pumps work fine but they are noisy. When installing the pump, take their advice seriously. Mount the pump below the level of the tank if possible. Mount it at an angle if possible. Mount it in a cool place, and mount it so it is functioning as a pusher from the rear instead of expecting the pump to suck fuel to the front of the car.

I will also offer one bit of unwanted advice. If you bought the particular kit shown in the eBay link, the round silver pancake thing is a cheap fuel regulator. That type has been around for decades and it has a fairly poor reputation. The Weber may be able to handle the higher pressure of your pump without the regulator. (Check with others who know Webers... I do not). If you can avoid using that regulator you may be better off without it.

EDIT: There is more information on the Facet pumps in the link below.

The cube pumps I have seen used most often with SUs are their models 40163 and 40178 which can be seen in the table linked below.
