I wish they had, but it would have been better as an "underdive", so the drive was direct in the highest possible ratio, for high speed cruising, when you do not want extra power loss. It does not matter so much in intermediate ratios, as you probably don't spend so much time in them. Since the final drive can be changed easily over a wide range, it would be easy to pick one that was just right, probably the 2.762 ratio for cruising, with an underdrive ratio to bring it to about 3.444 or 3.765 at lower speeds.
I can just about see how a better one could be made from mostly standard parts, especially the gears, and an enlarged diff casing to take two final drive gears side by side. That way you should not get much power loss in either ratio. The clever bit would be how to make clutches to engage one or other of the pinions on the gearbox output shaft. If it could be done, you could have any pair of standard final drive ratios. The speedo drive would have to be moved, or more simply, an electronic speedo fitted.
