Hi i hope someone can help i ordered 2 mini differential oil seals to replace the ones on my gearbox. from here

http://cgi.ebay.co.u...e=STRK:MEWNX:IT

but after removing the first one, i have noticed that what i have been supplyed are bigger that what i have taken out! the one i have taken out is 7.5mm wide and the new one is 9.5mm wide. the old one has GACO ANGUS IND51023 written on it. the new one just has 31.7 47.6 9.5 written on it. the engine is a 1992 1275cc.

are the oil seals i have been given wrong or are they an 'after maket improvement'?

Thanks Sean

or an "after market Cheap copy"....

They are correct dimensionally ( other than the thickness ) but are certainly not of the quality of the Angus Gaco seals..

Angus Gaco seals...

hi yes they are correct dimensionally except for the thickness. do you think that they would work ok as they would stick out of the housing by 2mm if i installed them? or i'm thinking it would be best to just get the correct size seals? and try to send these back.
thanks

As it is the main part of the seal that is sticking out then I would suggest that the chances are very low for keeping them in position and that the chances are high for the POT joint to rub on the seal and waer it out very quickly >_<

I am curious. Is it possible that the seal is intentionally built that way in case the pot joint has a wear groove? That would provide a new unworn sealing surface and replacement of the pot joint could be avoided.

Thanks,

Ivan

Being thicker in section means you actually have less scope for 'positioning' the seal... the actual depth of the recess in the cover is about 10mm, so these would need to be pretty much pressed fully in, meaning you have very little choice where the 'seal' is to sit in relation to the pot.
