My mini will not start and it has been sugested that it could be the starter motor, does anyone have a method for testing a starter motor?
Many thanks,
Henri.

Can you give more details - does it turn over but slowly, just make a clicking noise, turn over but not fire, or what?
Yeah basically it clicks fast but will not start, also I cannot jump start it off another car but I can bump it.

sounds like a flat battery
I'm afraid not, I have driven it after starting it by bumping, and then gone to restart it and no joy, also it is a new battery.

Should jump start with a duff battery.sounds like a flat battery
Check the connections at the starter motor - may well find a dodgy spade connector lurking.
else you can put power straight to the starter and trigger the solenoid on it with a 'jumper' wire - that would rule out any dodgy earths...

Me and my mate tried using a chain of jump leads going from the battery to the starter and it still wouldn't go. What does fubar mean?

A chain? lol - might be easier to put the battery next to the starter... connect the black to the body of the starter and the battery -Me and my mate tried using a chain of jump leads going from the battery to the starter
. Red to the main lug on the starter and the battery +
then you need a jumper wire from the + to the 'start' terminal on the solenoid to activate the solenoid to turn it on!

Cool and then if it doesn't start, what is the diagnosis?

Well as you are putting power straight to the starter - bypassing everything on the car - if it doesnt turn the engine over and still makes funny noises then I'd go for a replacement starter!
