Personally, I see no problem in it being in Mini chat. I also wouldn't be upset if there was a whole new MINI section but I doubt that will be happening any time soon.

Or any time at all in fact.

There are several forums dedicated to the BMW MINI, we aren't going to have a section for them, or Renault Clios, Austin Montegos, Land Rovers or any other car.

I accept there won't be a section for them, but comparing it to other cars is ridiculous - these are still Minis, designed by Rover who also built and sold the Classic car for several years. Whether or not they are a Mini is not really the question. But I'm not getting dragged into a debate about the pros and cons of MINIs etc.

You can't say any time at all; if the owners sell the forum and the new owners are MINI fans, it may well happen. All that can be said for sure is under current ownership there won't be.

Was it my computer playing funny games or was the thread moved back to Mini Chat for a short time last night? That's the bit I didn't understand?

It will always be a divisive issue.

I'm not sure what happened there, whether the forum did a backup or something, but nobody seems to know about it being moved back to Mini Chat.

And, for the record.

I'm actually coming around to buying a Mini Cooper S.  My cousin-in-law is a specialist BMW service/repair garage and gets the odd one in there.  I reckon the Cooper S or S Works would be a cracking track car for me.  Stripped out, few decent upgraded bits and pieces, cage, buckets, harnesses etc.  If I do it, I'll join one of the MINI forums though. ;D

The Land Rover was designed by Rover. As was the Rover 820 Vitesse (Great car) but we're not having a Rover 820 Vitesse section

I don't know enough about them to be able to even think about which model.  It'll be well into next year before I decide on what route to go. But I think the Mini is going to be flogged off soon anyway. :ermm:

I'm also considering an Audi S2 as a track car though.  They have IMMENSE potential.  Big power, big grip, 80s looks. :teehee:

I remember you saying about buying a Cooper S before. There are a couple of people where I work who have made a few mods. One guy has a GP2 which is standard. I was talking to him and his brother has a stripped out track weapon Cooper S, which cost him around 8k in total, and another guy there has a son with a GP1 also modded. I work in a company full of engineers and manufacturers though, so it's not that surprising that a few of them like to tinker with cars. I'd love a Cooper S or works, and came very close to buying one not too long ago, but backed out at the last second. To run one as a daily will be quite expensive, and with my other commitments I don't earn enough right now. If I get a better job, which I am hoping will happen so, I will look at this option again.

As for the direction of the site, Carlos I'm not going to discuss it with you if all you can do is reference other cars by the same manufacturer. That's ridiculous and doesn't prove anything. The MINI was the next Mini in the line, the Land Rover is a completely different car.

Just for the record, I have no problems with this site at all. It's well run, there is no swearing, its fairly well moderated and plenty of people contribute to the financing through TMF +. I also have no problem it staying just Classic Minis. Its the owners prerogative what they do with the site.

My little cousin used to work at Halliwel Jones in the MINI sales department.  That's where she met her husband-to-be actually.  She used to get various demonstrators out of there and the S Works GP was a gert lush one.

I dunno, though.  I've not driven a MINI for years now.  Audi S2 is uber cool, can be seriously BIG power and 4wd.

Oh yeah, only just noticed it's been moved. Shame as it should still be in mini chat I feel. Still a mini....

I haven't been on the forum as much lately, so what's this new rule?

It's not really a new "rule". It was just that we recently clarified that Mini Chat is for Minis only. We are, always have been and always will be a Classic Mini forum. We aren't a MINI forum. It's that simple. The people that own and run the site want to keep it that way.

On no MINI forum would I go and post threads about Minis in their MINI section, then complain and call that forum team "small-minded" because a thread had been moved...unlike here, where it seems we are supposed to be guilt-tripped and criticised for just trying to keep things in the right place.

That's fair enough :) I say it belongs in mini chat still, but oh well. Just got to remember to stop coming in mini chat like I just did to see this >_< lol

Yep, I'd definitely rather crash in a MINI than in a Mini!

I own an R50 mini now :D

Will get some pics up after gave it a decent detail.

Also spotted this MINI earlier. It looks amazing in person. The fiesta was nice too. Bit too extreme with the streched tyres on the fez though

I know! :P need to give it a good clean then will get some pics with the classic!

Only 62,000 genuine miles too! Not bad for an early one.

What model front bumpers would fit on mine as it has a little scuff and dent so thought about changing to one of the more sportier later fronts instead of having the current bumper repaired...

I think any of the Gen 1 bumpers will fit, so you could go for an R53 S one, or a JCW 'Aero' bumper.

Yes, either of those will fit an R50 as well as the standard R50 mid-2004 facelift bumpers.......think the Aero bumper needs the black honeycombe aero grilles to match.

I have R53 bumpers which fit straight on front and back but the position of the front lower foglights has to be adjusted to suit the S bumper but the R50 plastic fixing brackets for the foglights already have the alternative R53 holes in position, so no extra parts are needed. The black R53 side skirts also swap over easily, they are curved instead of flat as on R50.

Make sure you also change the gearbox oil asap if you have the original Rover Midland gearbox.......2 litres of MTF94.and do it every couple of years to prolong bearing life, worth it for the £20 the oil costs. The Midland box has a much nicer gearchange action than the later Getrag box fitted to post 2004 facelift R50, still have original Rover box in mine........the R53 has Getrag 6-speed which is bullet proof and can be transplanted into R53 with some extra work.

Lots of good 'How To' technical guides for the 1st Gen MINI's all listed together over on the USA NAM forum here:-
