When BMW took over I was very anti Bini for years, THEY ARNT MINI'SSSS!!!!!!
But over time some of them have grown on me.
The final clincher was setting off down south to pick up my old cooper sport, instead of going by train I decided to hire the cheapest hire car for the journey and drop it off down at Portsmouth. Anyway arrive at the car hire spot in York and this guy comes out and sees me with the 14year old looks us over, asks why we're hiring the car, then says hmmmm 'do you fancy something a bit sportier... we need this car at Portsmouth?'
Out came a Cooper S....God it was fun to drive, huge smile on my face !!! and then to have the contrast of driving the Cooper Sport back made it a hell of a day.....They still arnt true minis to me BUT if I was in the market for a smaller modern car I'd buy one......... probably the Countryman or the GP
I would love one Nice story.
My first true story of realizing I loved the new MINI was the original John Cooper Challenge back at Brands Hatch in 2003ish I'd say! When Mike Cooper was involved in the racing of the new MINI rather than it being an independent championship like it is now. There was a big smash at Paddock hill bend and I remember thinking 'Aww, poor Minis! :('... and then something clicked, they wern't Minis... or were they?.. hmm They certainly have that Mini cuteness about them. The racing is fantastic, some of the best you'll ever see, just like old Minis.
They're great cars... I'd love to own a Cooper S one day, it'd have to be an old one though, they've gotten fatter as time has gone by, and the modern ones are stunning, but a bit tooo fat!
Also, MINI owners are a great laugh and just like classic enthusiasts to talk to. People say they're idiots at shows, I've not met more idiotic MINI owners than I have Mini owners.
