"We’ve received word from a European source that next week MINI is set to unveil a special edition car for France and some other countries in the EU. Called “The MINI Mat” (we’re not sure about the spelling), the package will feature a checkered interior and mirror covers, plus a special matte black finish. Our source tells us that rather than a ground up custom paint color, the MINI Mat will have a matte layer overlaying the factory black paint. We’re not sure if that’s paint or vinyl, but either way it’ll likely be a sharp looking finish available for the Cooper, Cooper D, Cooper S and JCW. Look for details next week. (The photo is not the MINI Mat, but it does show how matte black finish could look)."

I saw a photo of this the other day:
Apparently limited to 250 and only available in France for now. It looks creepy in a good way Article here
Yesterday I saw my first countryman going round a roundabout by me and it made me feel very inferior in my grubby rusty little mini, it was in all black and I wanted to hate it so much but it was so shiny and nice looking I couldn't help liking it quite a bit. It was HUGE though!!!
I am so curious about the rumoured 'small MINI' that is apparently coming out soon, really want to see how BMW have made it look. I just hope it looks nothing like that hideous Rover prototype that pictures keep popping up of. I am trusting on mab01uk to post pictures as soon as he sees them!

They look a little weird though, sort of like a Megane CC with that fat ass. Might look better with the roof down though.

You mean those Rover Mini and Midi 'Spritual' concepts that were rejected at the famous Gaydon design shoot out in favour of the current MINI design in 1995? A lot of people seem to agree with you and for me they had none of the Mini's sporting DNA, although they were technically quite advanced at the time, so I guess BMW made the right decision in hindsight, and Rover of course made a great job of engineering the MINI at Gaydon and Longbridge, although sadly their engineers have been given little credit for it's success since.

Yes.....you can trust me to post the rumoured 'small MINI' that is coming out soon! Most of the pictures so far of the future Mini-MINI or MINI-Minor, as it is thought to be called, are still purely guesswork by the various car magazines.

I wouldn't say it's not wrong at all. There are seriously good looking cars here. I've never driven one, would like to give it a go, but would expect it to be very much like any other small size modern car, quiet, comfy with all the modern extras you'd expect. Is it wrong that this is the thread iv enjoyed flicking through the most on here in quite a while
Best start saving
...but I like the harsh, mechanical feeling with all that feedback you get from a classic. It's the history and the heritage and character, something you can work on at home and something which I believe embraces what motoring should be.
Good thread with some great pictures.

"Its always fun round Oxford when a new model is coming out, spying the test mules!"
is the green one a retractable hard top or just a hard top version of the cab?

The green one is the coupe which is a hard top. But this is not removerable unlike the roadster which is a soft top. The roadster will be the 2 seater convertable with a manual soft top while the coupe is a 2 seater also.Part camouflaged MINI Roadster & two Coupe prototypes were spotted filling up..............
