Right, i own a bright red mini city thats been made into a convertible by keiths conversions.
For some time ive been thinking about what sort of look i want to go for and how much it would cost. At first i thought about 13 inch wheels. (13X7). Then i found out that you have to cut body work etc which would be pretty costly as i wouldnt like to undertake things like that. Then i thought about 10 inch wheels. I like the look of them but only if the car is low enough that the gap between the wheel (tire) and the bodywork (arches).
1> What are apropriate arches for 10 inch wheels?
2> Is there any wer that sell secound hand or cheap classic mini alloys. (Pref 10 inch)
3> What would i have to do to make 10's fit if thats what i went for?

At the moment ive got a set of 12 inch minilites. Im not unhappy with these but they dont really stand out enough for me. If any one has any ideas or pictures of their car they cam show me or bring up then it would be much apriciated.
Thanks, Martyn

If you are wanting to fit 10's then you will need to buy a minispares or minisport brake conversion kit:
http://www.minisport...nfo_MS2681.html
But just for the contrary, aftermarket 12" alloys can be cheaper to buy and tyres for them are considerably cheaper (as 10" is not a common size)

You would need to change the front wheel brake set up for one that would fit behind 10" wheels (aftermarket kit or an old cooper set up).

From there on, most wheel arches look ok with 10s as the tyres kind of bulge and add to the look.

You could spray your 12s?

i was thinking about 13x7's but was advised not to as would need to cut the bodywork and would loose power pulling a larger area

you cant have standard 8.4' brakes with 10' wheels, therefore could be costly to change the brake set up

i have 12x6 minilights (pics on profile) on my mini, i think they look fab and are just the right size as i didnt have to change anything they just bolted straight on

hope this helps a little

Its not mega bucks to adjust the front wings to accept 13x7s. Would prove a lot more expensive to change the brake set up!

okay thank you. Yeah, have thought about spraying the wheels ive got at the moment but it seems like alot of hassel and could be quite expensive if i got them done propperly. The wheels ive got at the moment rub on when there are people in the back. Thats why i was thinking 10's and then lowing the suspension so they dont look out of play. Especially like 10X7's.

10x7 will most likely require front arch trimming as they will rub on full lock.

Wow! you will be spending hundreds on each wheel buying a set of 7x10's, and alot on the brake kits. If you do decide to go down the route of 10's then a set of 6x10's from Huddersfield spares would probably be the more practicle option

i thought www.midlandwheels.co.uk were quite good for wheels and tyres and also gives you a rough estimate on costs

if you get 10x7s you will need to trim the arches as well as it is the tire width not really the wheel size.
also it is not to hard to do you just need to trim them till they fit on full lock really.

You can't get road legal tyres for 10" x 7". The maximum wheel width for a 165" section tyre is 6" (see www.alloywheels.com and search under tyre calc). The 7" are for wide sticky racing tyres which can't be used on the road.
