Well I got my renewal from Footman James yesterday at £1444.62 - bearing in mind last year it was £580, I was not happy! So I rang up adrian flux - who said they couldn't match that. So I then rang up Peter James, who got me a quote of just £671.58. Rang up FJ and told them, and after some umming and arring they said they could match that quote.

Well happy that I managed to halve the renewal price - the downside is I have to listen to FJ's classical music for another year

Because the whole insurance industry has decided to try it on.

Basically yes, the rates went up massively in october.

I've had no accidents, claims, points etc. I just took out the policy when the rates were a lot cheaper.

Jesus H Christ!!! That's a massive amount. Do you have factors that make you high risk at all as I dont pay anywhere near that!! In fact, I paid that for a highly modified 2.7 V6 with Nitrous!!!!!!!

How do you declare Nitrous to an insurance company when it's illegal to use on the road?

That is one hell of a price increase. As for NOS, most insurance companies will insure it, it all depends on how you sell it to them. If you just say i have added NOS they say "Ah massive power hike" and do the same to your policy. If you say you have added a NOS cooling system they look at it in a different way. Basically thats what you have done. When using NOS it lowers the charge temps in your manifold, selling it to them like that some see it as a safety feature. Reduce manifold and charge temps, lower the risk of fuel line and throttle bodie fires.......

one thing to bear in mind with footman james, as i only found out today, you dont build any no claims bonus, or so they told me on the phone. So im moving to adrian flux, so i can start building no claim bonus, and because footman james wont cover me for my intended modifications.

I agree they'll still take your premium, they aren't stupid. It's when you make a claim, and they simply cancel your insurance instead you'll have difficulty.

I had this problem with my skyline when it was fitted with NOS. They insured it but when it came to a claim they said "sorry, your insurance is NULL and VOID" (i wont mention the insurance company name) so i took it to court and the outcome was the "Gudge saying and i quote " He told you about the fixture and you agreed to insure it, he paid you his money and you took it. In light of this YOU WILL DAMN WELL PAY OUT" The overall light of this in any court is that if an insurance company is told of any given MOD and they accept it and you pay them to do so, they have entered a LEGAL contract as well and thus have to accept LIABILITY of such MOD.

You told them it was a cooling system?

No i told them exactly what it was, but being as it is a gas, it has a cooling effect on the engine helping to keep charge temps down in the same way that the CRY o2 spray bar on the intercooler keeps inlet temps down. It was them that then called it a cooling system on the policy.

You were lucky you got a call handler that made a mistake when you mis-lead them, and even luckier with the judge that let you get away with it. Chances of it happening twice are going to be one in a million, as you know you'll be in court for the next pay out as well. Just hope they don't remind him of the temperature it burns at, and how it suddenly stops cooling.

Have you perhaps declared your alloys as "enhanced road contact devices"?
