as title says, are the driveshaft the same for the drum and disk models, and the only difference is the cv joints on the end?

The outer cv joint is a larger diameter on disk brake hubs, inner cv joints are the same on both as well as driveshaft length, the disk brake outer cv joint will fit on drum brake driveshaft.

Hope this helps, someone will come explain it abit better lol

Cv joints are interchangeable, but the disk brake shafts themselves are a lot thicker than the skinny drum brakes ones.

There is no differance between drum and disc drive shafts for a particular mark of Mini.

But there are 3 differant types (4 if you count the 18 spline 1959 to 60 shafts) of shaft. It all depends which inner joints are fitted, rubber couplings, hardy spicers or pot joints.

How can you tell which joints are fitted?

Just a quick note, rubber couplings and hardy spicers use the same shafts.

Your right, my mistake.

That tends to be true only with minis from a certain time period in the eighties. BL's famous cost cutting..........

I fitted a cooper s set up to an 84 previously drum braked mini, the drive shafts were a lot thinner than the disk ones. But the later disk brake CV joins defiantly fitted the skinner shafts.

I've just converted my 1980 clubby from drums to dics.

The shafts were different, outer CV's needed changing but the main thing I noticed was the 'ball bearing cage' on the end of the disc shafts did not fit into the inner CV's!
I had to drift the cage from the drum shafts and swap it over. I thought this was a little odd but it worked!

Do you mean you drifted the bearing cage off of the inner member of the por joint? The star shaped section is part of the joint, not a fixed part of the shaft. If so you now have a real mish-mash CV joint, which is supposed to be a very closely tolleranced component. It would have been a lot easier to change the whole joint properly than to drift off and replace the bearing cage.

The inner pot joint and 'cage/bearing combo'are original. I removed the 'cage/bearing' from the end of the drum shaft and put it on the disc shaft. The 'cage/bearing' is held on with a circlip, same as the outer CV. The only bit that has changed is the shaft itself so no worry of 'mish-mash' CV )

Are the rubber coupling and the later cv joint shafts different or interchangeable?
