Hi I'm updating my mini thirty and I am respraying all the existing chrome parts. However have come to a bit of a standstill with the outer door handles - the last thing I need to do this bank holiday weekend! Have been masking, primering and spraying rest of car fine but no idea without taking apart door card etc. and possibly breaking the existing door lock etc. if there is any way to paint the door handles whilst on the car (with careful masking etc.) without sticking the door components shut/together?!

Any help much appreciated!!

Thanks :D

You would be better off buying a set (i might have some spare) of grey or black handles, painting them up, as apposed to the chrome ones.

Easy project mate, did my a couple of months ago. Take handle out and lock barrel. Sand Chrome off with wet n dry. Primer a couple of times. Wet n dry again. Primer some more. Top coat couple of times sand again. I Hung mine in front oven door open to bake paint on. Laquered over top coat. Front of oven again etc and so on. The result in worth it. Leave to harden before you put back on car. Hope all goes well.

Yes I agree, the door & boot handles are a very "high wear" area and no amount of priming, painting and laquer will protect them completely from getting scratched especially with keys. Used black/grey handle sets come up on ebay fairly regularly, I sold mine complete with lock barrels & keys a couple of months ago for about £12! At that sort of price it's simply not worth the hassle of repainting the chrome ones!
