ironic how just today i held a welder for the first time in my hand
The mechanic was quite busy so my learning session was a few minutes
Was welding blobs of metal onto an old dusty rusty clutch disc, and then tried welding a washer to it.
To be honest I found it quite easy, just requires practice to get the speed right, as my first was too fast, the second weld got a bit better.
The welding of the washer wasn't so successful due to shaky hands and the washer being very small, and the fact that the whole thing was cut short when a big blob of weld simultaneously melted through my trousers and landing on my forearm, resulting in quite a surprise!
Compared to this, angle grinder sparks seem like ice
I'm pretty confident I can do a weld that will hold if I spend a short while practicing, so sometime next week or so I'll be going to the mechanic this time in my clubman, ready for door removal and weld in of bracing
I'll be reading the guide you posted right now

Cool.
Practice makes perfect.
Actually looking at the link I posted there is a LOT of information there that you don't really need just to actually do some welding but for any engineers or someone actually designing a structural weld its good stuff.
